Job Summary:
Pratt and Whitney Engine Design & Systems Integration (EDSI) is looking for a Systems Analysis Principal Engineer to lead the Turbine / Aero Thermal Systems Performance SSIPT as part of a next generation military propulsion program.
The EDSI organization strives to merge legacy integration disciplines covering both physical and functional integration such that our next generation of systems engineers have capability to function across both domains. The ideal candidate will have experience in both systems analysis activities as well as in areas associated with turbine performance such as turbine aero, heat transfer, clearances, or secondary flow. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience utilizing Agile for Product Development (APD).
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and lead Turbine / Aero Thermal Systems Performance SSIPT integrating inputs from turbine aerodynamics, secondary air flow systems, heat transfer, and tip clearances with the objective of enhancing Pratt & Whitney methodologies for bookkeeping turbine performance.
- Applying thermodynamic principles to a wide range of aircraft engine performance development topics such as product validation, control definition and optimization, cycle studies, and performance improvement packages for thrust, fuel burn, and functional improvements to the engine.
- Maintaining the NPSS model consistent with the cross section and configuration.
- Supporting engine performance trade studies by interfacing across program functional disciplines, implementing proposed changes in NPSS, analyzing results, proposing alternative solutions, and reporting findings through EDSIT.
- Creating performance table information for utilization by CIPTs and SSIPTs for analysis.
- Evaluating transient engine performance including compression system and combustor stability.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 8+ years of relevant industry experience or a Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant industry experience
- US Citizenship required due to government contracts
- US Government full SECRET clearance
- Ability to obtain further enhanced security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Agile for Product Development (APD) experience
- Familiarity with engine tip clearance management
- Familiarity with secondary air flow systems and heat transfer
- Technical experience in Aero/Thermal disciplines
- NPSS modeling proficiency
- Master's Degree with emphasis on gas turbine performance and operability, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, systems engineering, or computer science.
What is my role type?
In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We’ve introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:
Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
