Job Summary:
Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced, and self-motivated individual to join our HSE Core Durability group as the damage mechanism lead to improve durability design system (DDS). DDS is used to support executing designs and thermal analyses of turbine airfoils, BOAS, and combustors. The candidate is expected to have strong analytical skills and fundamental knowledge of mechanisms that cause hot section part damage (i.e., creep, thermo-mechanical fatigue, CMAS infiltration, spallation, etc.). Major deliverable is development of reduced order damage mechanism models, and implementation into DDS to improve the hot section lifing calculations. The candidate is also expected to work closely with engineers from material processing engineering organization, as well as researchers from academia to develop better tools and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Develop physics based mechanisms for creep, thermo-mechanical fatigue, CMAS infiltration, and thermal barrier coat spallation
-
Coordinate with materials process engineering on material testing needs
-
Provide reduced order models that will be incorporated into hot section lifing tools
-
Advocate for university research and coordinate data collection
-
Benchmark latest developments in the field of gas turbine relevant damage mechanism fundamentals and modeling
Basic Qualifications:
-
BS in Engineering.
-
8+ years of engineering experience or 5+ years of engineering experience with an advanced degree.
-
Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
