Are you excited by the prospects of leading a world-class organization that innovates & produces aircraft landing structures?  This could be the perfect opportunity for you.  This position will report to the Senior Director of Engineering – Landing Systems, based out of our Oakville Ontario facility. As the Director of Landing Gear Engineering, the individual will be responsible for engineering leadership for our $1B Landing Gear business. This would encompass an engineering spend of ~$35M & responsibility for around ~150 Full Time employees (between our LG facilities, Collins Global Engineering Centers in Poland, & India as well as contractors). This leader will be responsible for the development & execution of a strategy to support & influence engineering efforts including product innovation, design, production support, cost containment & product safety compliance.

What YOU will do:

You will be responsible for planning & execution of all engineering programs (25%)

  • Budgeting & engineering program scheduling

  • Execution of engineering quality, on-time delivery, & budget performance

  • Design for production & service

You will be responsible for motivation & development of the team (25%)

  • Managing human capital necessary to achieve the engineering goals

  • Responsible for organizational design & effectiveness

  • Development of capable succession for leadership roles & technical expertise

  • Establishment of a positive culture

  • Ensuring reward & recognition structures are effective & appropriately deployed

You will be responsible for technical content & quality of Engineering (20%)

  • Provide technical guidance & support to the engineering team

  • Develop & manage the creation & maturation of core technologies to propel the future of the business

  • Meet customer requirements

  • Help shape & implement Collins strategic initiatives

  • Ensure we maintain the appropriate recurrent cost envelope

You will be responsible for managing technical relationships at airframe & airline/operating customers (20%)

  • Ensure an effective communication process between Collins & key customer personnel.

  • Foster a business relationship with customers where crucial conversations can take place to ensure issues can be dealt with effectively & efficiently at management level when roadblocks arise at the working group level.

  • Develop a trusting & transparent working relationship through ethical behavior, customer focused improvements, accountability, & teamwork.

You will be responsible for resource planning (10%)

  • Support engineering low-cost source strategy for long term growth & competitiveness

  • Coordinate new business opportunities with the business development group to ensure resources are allocated to new business.

  • Ensure resources are allocated for engineering programs to meet customer expectations.

  • Ensure divisional resources are effectively utilized leveraging skills & program geographical needs.

Education & Experience:

  • Typically requires University Degree & minimum 14 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field & minimum 12 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 18 years of relevant experience

Qualifications you must have:

  • Eligible to work in Canada; Successful candidates must meet all requirements under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) & the Controlled Goods Directorate (CGD).

  • 10 years of experience in a senior leadership role.

  • Experience in engineering support of a manufacturing facility.

  • Experience in New Product Introduction

  • Experience in an “In Service Support” related role.

  • Experience in a highly regulated, safety critical environment.

Skills we value:

  • Aircraft certification experience

  • Design experience using CATIA v5 an asset
