Job Summary:

We are seeking an accomplished Director, Employee and Labor Relations to join the Human Resources team in Andover, Massachusetts.  This individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of Labor Relations strategies to promote an ongoing positive work environment.  Additionally, the candidate of choice will administer the collective bargaining agreement and provide leadership and counsel on contract negotiation, grievance, arbitration, and federal and state labor legislation.  This position also represents the company in dealings with employee representatives and government agencies.  The successful candidate will support the Employee and Labor Relations team and report to the Vice President, Employee & Labor Relations. 

This position is an onsite role located in Andover, Massachusetts.    

Responsibilities to Anticipate: 

  • Lead Employee and Labor Relations efforts from day-to-day activities to strategic contractual implementations, grievance, and negotiations activity including proposal development and serving as chief spokesperson during contract negotiations.  Guide team in the research and compilation of facts and policy interpretation to deliver management’s position in each case.
  • Develop and maintain an effective relationship with Local and International Union representatives.
  • Act as a grievance spokesperson for the company. Prepare for grievances in the final step of the process prior to arbitration.
  • Advise all levels of management in the interpretation of the law and collective bargaining agreements.  Serve as advisor, mentor and coach for leaders in support of achieving objectives. 
  • Provide leadership and development to the Employee and Labor Relations team and HR professionals.
  • Establish programs and processes to facilitate creation of a positive work environment.  Leads and/or supports assessments as required.
  • Partner with operations/managers on staffing requirements including, hiring, promotions, transfers, and reductions-in-force.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s with 14 years of Labor Relations, Human Resource, business related experience or an Advance Degree with 12 years of related experience.
  • Experience developing, drafting, editing contract language and serving as the chief spokesperson in negotiations.
  • Experience administering collective bargaining agreements. 
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment, labor, and compliance requirements.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industrial/Manufacturing experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and independently with individuals at all levels in the organization including executives.
