Job Description:
Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) at Pratt & Whitney is responsible for providing engineering support to ensure on-time product delivery, continued producibility enhancements, and overall improvements in production costs, quality signature and delivery performance. HSE ESTO is looking for an energetic, execution & process improvement motivated design manager to join our team. Hardware responsibilities for this position include the NEO and NGPF MTF and TEC hardware with opportunity for expanded roles and hardware responsibilities.
The Design Manager will have a team of design engineers as direct reports and be responsible for developing overall production support vision and execution for their responsible hardware family. In this role you will also be responsible coaching, developing, nurturing and mentoring of direct reports as well as others in the HSE ESTO team. ESTO allows managers to be a driving factor that leads the team toward solutions, removes barriers, and find the path. Direct and concise communicator. Know your audience and tailor accordingly. Must be able to fluently communicate with executive level leadership and external customers. We are looking for passionate and innovative individual with an eye on improvement with excellent interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and establish a culture that identifies opportunities to improve processes through automation and efficiency of repetitive tasks.
- Develop ESTO Blue Badge and Outsource technical and professional proficiency by coaching, challenging and stretching design practitioners through thoughtful targeted mentoring.
- Incorporate Pro-Cert methodology and data derived decision making into design engineering culture and capture ESTO producibility lessons learned. Drive continuous improvement into product development cycle.
- Forecast resource planning for both PW and outsource needs, control resource assignment to close manpower gaps.
- Ability to make risk-based choices with an eye on need and timeliness. Draw on engineering fundamentals/physics and choose a solution with balanced conservatism. Promote "Right-size Analysis".
- Demonstrate adaptability with various technical approaches and risk-based choice making while regularly communicating task status in highly visible environment.
Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 10 years of design experience or an advanced degree with 7 years of design experience. Both must be from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited school
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Hot Section hardware and experience in a manufacturing environment
- Adaptable leader that can handle multiple tasks, teams and/or hardware groups at once.
- Demonstrated ability to work with different personalities and drive team consensus and solutions by employing proven leadership skills that get the job done while passionate about people development.
- Ability to thrive in a nonstandard work environment and support non-standard work hours in order to efficiently and safely meet demand.
