Job Description:
Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focused Principal Design Engineer to work for our Turbine Airfoil Casting Team (TACT). In this role, you will execute and drive to closure all TACT engineering tasks in support of airfoil casting tooling qualifications and on-time delivery of airfoil castings. You will be responsible for various production support activities related to military and commercial airfoils, including PW-QA-6078 56C engineering assessments, engineering disposition of nonconforming hardware submitted via QN, and supplier requests for information. The successful candidate will prepare and present status and technical content to upper management, program management, and other stakeholders. As design discipline head, you will guide and mentor team members and grow the technical proficiency of the team to develop CIPT delegate approvers for turbine airfoils across programs.
Key responsibilities:
- Establish best practices for defect assessment and defining “Right-size Analysis” through risk-based choice-making process.
- Head multi-disciplinary teams including operations, quality, procurement, and engineering discipline SMEs to drive root cause investigations, develop associated corrective actions, and implement product and process improvements.
- Address time critical quality issues to support engine and module delivery.
- Develop Class II engineering change packages to improve quality, cost and producibility metrics.
- Incorporate Pro-Cert methodology and data driven selections into Class II process.
- Drive continuous improvement into product development cycle and design of next generation hardware.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering with 8 years of prior engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience with an advanced degree in engineering.
- US citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
- Experience working in the Aerospace Industry in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience providing engineering support of development and/or production hardware for gas turbine engine components.
- Previous Airfoils design or manufacturing experience.
- Working proficiency with Teamcenter, SAP and NX.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural awareness with clear communication.
Travel: Less than 25%
