Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney MSEN Engineering seeks a motivated, detail-oriented mechanical engineer to join the design team. Working on inter-disciplinary teams, the selected candidate will perform mechanical designs of gas turbine engine parts for fuel, hydraulic, lubrication and air management Systems. This position requires creative design skills in engine hardware arrangement and packaging to achieve maintainable, low-cost systems while meeting structural and functional requirements. MSEN hardware includes a vast and challenging array of parts including Bearing, Housing, Tower Shaft, Seals, Oil Nozzle, Gears, Spacers, Shields, supports, tubes, brackets, electrical harnesses and component mounts. The MSEN Designer routinely interfaces with different modules on a PW gas turbine engine as well as integration of different systems on the engine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals.

  • Understand technical processes and design requirements of multiple gas turbine hardware including plumbing and ducting systems, Bearing, Housing, Tower Shaft, Seals, Oil Nozzle, Gears, Spacers, Shields, supports, tubes, brackets, electrical harnesses, component mounts, etc.

  • Learn and apply solid modeling and analysis tools in a proficient manner and work with a multidiscipline team including structures, project and product definition.

  • Work to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.

  • Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.).

  • Ability to negotiate design criteria/space with other groups including internal as well as external customers and to complete complex tolerance stacks for fit/function.

  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English.

  • Travel to 10%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and 2 years of engineering experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience with CAD solid modeling (UG NX) and finite element analysis tools (i.e., Ansys).

  • 2 years with Teamcenter or other PLM system.

  • 1 year with gas turbine experience and strong aptitude working in a virtual 3D environment.

  • 2 year experience with GD&T.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
