Job Summary:

We are currently hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Systems Concept & Design Technologies Department of the Systems Design & Architecture (SDA) organization located in Tucson, AZ. This position is to support a large strategic program as the Deputy Team Lead for the core Systems Engineering (SE) team, as well as being the Environments Responsible Systems Engineer (RSE).

The program is a strategic pursuit critical to the future of the RMD business portfolio.  The Deputy SE team lead reports directly to the SE Team Lead and will share responsibility for managing execution of all 20 members of the team.

In addition to being the Deputy SE Team Lead, this role will include top-level management of the Environmental Control Document as the Environments RSE. In this role, the selected candidate will manage decomposition of the top-level environmental requirements from the customer to all levels of the specification tree.  The position will require regular interactions with the Cross-Product Team (CPT), program leadership, and the customer. This role necessitates an individual with a high-level of environmental requirements experience and knowledge.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Core Systems Engineering at the AUR level to include design and analysis of components integrated or interfacing at the AUR level

  • Technical guidance and leadership of subsystem teams working design aspects they need to integrate at the AUR level

  • Assist the SE Team Lead with overall team management and tasking

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to all team members.

  • Perform as a proxy for the SE Team Lead in various forums, including internal and external settings

  • Managing top level environmental requirements with extensive customer interfacing

  • Decomposition of top-level environmental requirements to lower-level components for incorporation into specifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of Engineering experience or an Advanced Degree in STEM and 3 years of Engineering experience.

  • Previous experience in requirements decomposition

  • Previous experience with various types of environmental requirements

  • Active United States Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline

  • Active Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)

  • Experience using system engineering tools such as DOORS

  • Previous leadership experience, including leading small to medium sized teams

  • Understanding of Systems Engineering Product Development Cycle

  • Program Management certification or experience (PMX Level 7 / Level 6 Preferred)

  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
