This role presents an exciting opportunity for an accomplished AWS Solution Architect within the Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) strategic business unit, pivotal in steering the influential Connected Ecosystem strategic initiative. You will drive the formulation of the overarching system strategy, lead work methodology development, offer crucial support to diverse technical teams, and endorse unified work practices in conjunction with other Strategic Business Units (SBUs) across Collins and Raytheon Technologies. Your role will extend to crafting technology modernization and systems integration roadmaps, charting the course for innovative smart product solutions in collaboration with CAS, other SBUs, and Raytheon Technologies. Through your expertise, particularly in AWS technologies and architectures, you will unlock substantial organizational value by harnessing data and facilitating seamless integration. This position will be instrumental in maintaining our leading position in CAS Central Engineering.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Work with other SBUs to understand needs, capture originating requirements and establish Most Important Requirements (MIRs) for smart product solutions that integrate into the CAS ecosystem. 

  • Develop technical solutions that meet or exceed the customer’s needs for the most demanding and complex projects. 

  • Create and lead technology investment roadmaps to support the future needs of smart products 

  • Make appropriate tradeoffs between cost, schedule, and scope while satisfying the needs of internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Decompose customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements. 

  • Guide complex engineering system development over the full product life cycle including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, validation, operation, maintenance and disposal to ensure successful outcomes. 

  • Establish plans and strategy for requirements management and coordination of all teams involved in large projects. 

  • Ensure corporate life cycle management processes (e.g., Collins Management System) are adhered to and provide recommendations for streamlining processes. 

  • Develop and deliver global programs with international stakeholders within a matrixed functional organization. 

  • Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization’s projects. 

  • Perform technical planning, including cost estimations and schedule development with acknowledgement of risks and opportunities. 

  • Consider and evaluate alternative solutions through trade studies. 

  • Willingness to travel approximately 10%. 

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

  • A proven track record of at least Five (5) years of hands-on experience in specialized technology domains, including but not limited to software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, and data & analytics.

  • Five (5) years of experience in IT development, implementation, or consulting within the software or Internet industries.

  • Five (5) years in designing, implementing, or consulting on distributed applications.

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of at least 5 years in technical leadership roles like, Principal Solutions Architect, Distinguished Architect/Engineer, etc.

  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing AWS-based solutions in a professional setting.

  • In-depth knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, and others.

  • Strong understanding of cloud migration strategies and methodologies.

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC2, GDPR).

  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar.

  • Proficiency in presenting and whiteboarding with confidence when engaging with internal and external executives, IT management, and developers.

  • Sound knowledge of software development tools and methodologies.

  • Experience in technology/software sales consulting or equivalent expertise.
