Job Summary:

As a process development engineer, your mission is to contribute to the development and scaleup of manufacturing processes for Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) at Pratt and Whitney. In this role, you will work cross-functionally on process development initiatives, process characterization, material testing, technology transfer/scaleup to CMC Center of Excellence (CMC COE), and contribute to the CMC strategy to produce transformative material for PW’s commercial and military jet engines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes for Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) to produce ceramic matrix composites.

  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into production

  • Play an active role in the Integrated Product Team (IPT) process for Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) turbine components

  • Create and implement strategies to improve quality and minimize process cost

  • Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and analysis that will support robust process development for CMCs. This includes establishing methods for data collection, data analysis and data visualization for data-driven decision making

  • Lead the advancement of CVI Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and support hardware production for Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) demonstration

  • Conduct root cause investigations as required and implement corrective actions

  • Identify, investigate and implement new technology to address business goals

  • Travel: 10%

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5+ years of prior relevant experience, OR an Advanced Degree in a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering discipline with 3.0 GPA or higher preferred.

  • Experience developing new processes and successful transition to production

  • Experience making, testing or analyzing CMCs

  • Experience with CVI or CVD processes and equipment

  • A working-knowledge of quality and process improvement tools such as Six Sigma and LEAN

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence

  • Ability to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results and overcome challenges

  • Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements
