This position is for an Advanced Capabilities product line Value Stream Leader (VSL) within the Advanced Systems and Architectures organization.
Primary responsibilities for this position include VSL support of the Autonomous Operations Strategic Initiative, spearheading strategic planning for advanced system capabilities, execution of cross product line and cross business unit product/system developments, and development and management of a common demonstration strategy within Avionics.
Qualified candidates should have a strong background in avionics products and systems and project management with experience leading and managing complex product or system developments. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to apply strategic insight and critical thinking in solving complex problems. Candidates will also balance technical knowledge and business acumen in their management approach.
A product line VSL leads the Integrated Project Team (IPT) through the life cycle tenets of the Collins Management System (CMS) for their assigned product line; inclusive of pursuit and order capture, design and development, produce to deliver and long-term strategic business plans. Primary responsibilities include spearheading strategic planning for assigned product lines, using price to win and market data to drive design decisions, execution of product developments, and promoting cross-business product synergies to support business unit objectives. The product line VSL directs all phases of product line strategy and development from inception through completion.
The preferred location for this role is in Cedar Rapids, IA. Remote may be considered for highly-qualified candidates.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides VSL support of the Autonomous Operations Strategic Initiative (SI)
- Develop and manage an advanced capabilities roadmap enabling enhanced safety and single pilot operations in Avionics.
- Leads medium to large size programs to ensure adherence to program plans, schedule, and budgets for programs under his/her responsibility and recommends appropriate adjustments.
- Provides VSL support for Avionics product line segment analysis.
- Develops product line investment business cases, new business growth strategies and drives annual strategic planning efforts for the business.
- Identifies product requirements for key program pursuits and development of the product line.
- Oversees creation of product and solution roadmaps for NextGen Systems and identifies opportunities to generate product reuse across multiple programs.
- Identifies and reacts to program problems and recommends solutions, such as allocation of resources and changing contractual specifications, and assists in resolution development for escalated problems.
- Execution responsibilities include cost, schedule, technical performance, risk management, product support, manufacturing, and quality of all assigned product lines.
- Work with all business units to ensure customer commitments are met or exceeded.
- Interfaces with internal customers for project specifications to ensure successful completion.
- Leads decision making for the IPTs and applying critical thinking where incomplete data exists.
- Communicates vision to their IPT and stakeholders within and outside of the function, as well as connects how the vision fits within the Aerospace market. Requires ability to communicate with senior executive leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the organization.
- Prepares and presents value-stream strategy, progress, and results.
- Consolidates and presents progress reports at program or product reviews.
- Establishes data and cost-focused performance targets and directs work to achieve these targets.
- Accountable for the overall performance of the assigned value stream.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Typically requires:
- Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- Experience leading product and/or system developments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve enterprise commitments is required.
- Must have experience leading highly complex teams with matrixed responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working on Avionics Programs.
