JOB DESCRIPTION

We have an opening for a Associate Director, Tax in Raytheon Technologies (RTX) Tax department in the area of State Income Tax. This is not an executive level role. This role can be full remote or Hybrid based in either Charlotte, NC, or Farmington, CT and is responsible for assisting, overseeing and coordinating key state income tax matters including reporting and compliance. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Tax, Reporting and Compliance for RTX Corporate Finance. Selected candidate will be required to work business hours that align with Eastern U.S. time.

Description of Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • With supervision by the VP of RTX Tax, Reporting & Compliance, the Associate Director of RTX State Income Tax will communicate, coordinate and collaborate with other members of the RTX Corporate and RTX Raytheon Tax Groups and the Business Functional Groups (e.g. – Controllers, Legal, Operations) concerning state income tax related tax and operational matters as well as support external co-source provider on state income tax on compliance matters.
  • Provides oversight, resources, and support for state income tax planning, reporting, compliance, and government accounting processes.
  • Manages and reviews quarterly, plan, and year end state income tax provision computations and files, including, but not limited to, effective tax rates, deferred rates, and reserves.
  • Manages and reviews priority state income tax returns and associated workpapers, estimates and extensions, notices, and apportionment packages.
  • Provides assistance to global tax audit team related to various audits, protests, protective refund claims, and audit offsets.
  • Identifies and implement state income tax refund opportunities, quantity and ensure accurate and timely implementation of tax law changes.
  • Identifies and quantify state income/franchise tax implications of planning and restructuring transactions.
  • Manage state income/franchise matters associated with acquisitions and dispositions and tax allocation for government accounting.

Required Qualifications

  • Good interpersonal skills, including ability and desire to communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with others throughout Tax and Finance organizations, at RTXHQ and Business Units.
  • Self motivated, able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Able to multitask and have excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into meaningful analysis.
  • Proven people leader that focuses and development and growth of direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have at least ten years of relevant state tax planning experience gained in a large international corporate and/or public accounting setting.
  • Advanced degree in Taxation, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Law is desired.
  • A dynamic problem solver with strong accounting, analytical, decision-making, and interpersonal skills with the ability to craft solutions to everyday challenges with creative new ideas.
  • Self-starter with willingness to take initiative, support strategic priorities, take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives, contribute to results, and be committed to meeting tight deadlines.
  • You are someone who enjoys working collaboratively on projects with other functional departments and has exceptional organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Corp Tax and Longview software is a plus.

Experience and Education

  •  This role typically requires a bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, accounting, law or taxation and a minimum of 12 years of experience, to include 10 years relevant state tax planning, reporting, and compliance experience in a large multi-national, corporate tax, or accounting firm environment, including some level of supervisory responsibility, or an advance degree and 10 years or relevant experience gained in a in a large multi-national, corporate tax, or accounting firm environment.
