Job Summary:

Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE), Applied Mechanics Laboratory (AML) is seeking a highly motivated individual to be a Component Test Engineer.  The Component Test Engineer is responsible for leading the execution of a variety of gas turbine component test types including static load, low and high cycle fatigue, ballistic impact, spin, thermal cyclic and other application specific test types that represent engine operating conditions.  The Component Test Engineer works with internal Pratt & Whitney customers to understand and implement overall test objectives, control mode, instrumentation and data acquisition requirements. The engineer is responsible for designing custom fixtures and hardware; developing an instrumentation plan with the necessary data acquisition and controls; works with technical staff to perform the test; troubleshoots test issues; analyzes data; and reports results.

The Component Test Engineer will also lead the selection, procurement, and commissioning of new capital items; will lead process improvement projects; and may lead the development of new and advanced test methods and techniques.

Minimal Travel Required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related Engineering field

  • 8+ years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanically inclined with strong problem solving, analytical, observational, and organizational skills

  • Function effectively in a lab environment with people of a broad variety of skills and backgrounds

  • Ability to balance several test jobs at once

  • Committed to a continuous improvement mindset

  • Experience developing new processes or technology

  • Experience in mentoring early career employees

  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence

  • Ability to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results and overcome challenges

  • Knowledge of gas turbine engines, modules or systems, or equivalent

  • Proficiency in CAD Unigraphics/NX design and Finite Element analysis software, preferably ANSYS

  • Proficiency or previous exposure to National Instruments DAQ hardware, MATLAB and LabView

  • Must be a strong verbal and written communicator

  • Committed to strong Environmental Health & Safety practices
