Aero-Thermal Principal Test Engineer

The Aero-Thermal Testing Group at RTX Technology Research Center is seeking a candidate with expertise in experimental testing and test facility operations. The position requires analytical engineering skills and hands-on experience in the assembly, instrumentation, installation, testing and troubleshooting of test articles and test facility support systems. Activities will include experimental test program planning and execution, day-to-day test operations, ensuring the validity and accuracy of experimental data, and effective communication with team members. Also responsible for periodic safety audits, facilitating system maintenance, and the application of Environmental Health and Safety rules.
Due to the nature of the experimental testing, flexible scheduling and multi-shift test support will be required.
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s candidates with a minimum of 8 years of work experience post degree in experimental test engineering will be reviewed for this position.

Master’s degree candidates will need at least 5 years of work experience post degree in experimental test engineering.

Expertise in experimental test execution and test facility operations.

Strong technical leadership and troubleshooting skills.
-
Expertise in system design, fluid dynamics and pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Strong project management, scheduling, documentation, teaming and communication skills.

Strict adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety rules and regulations.

Experience in MS Office and Project.

Experience with data acquisition (steady state and dynamic), processing and analysis, and test instrumentation (Labview, Matlab)

Experience with operation of control systems. (Allen Bradley PLC)

Familiarization with gas turbine technology focused on aero combustor and/or aero compressor testing a plus.

U.S. Government Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance.

Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
May have broad knowledge of project management. Requires substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area. Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years' experience Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
