Job Summary:
The Materials and Process (M&P) Engineering Department helps with selection and testing of Materials for a diverse set of program at Raytheon. The Department is seeking an Intern to work in Materials Engineering Laboratory in Tucson AZ. This position will offer a qualified intern candidate the opportunity to solve engineering problems by performing chemical analysis on various materials. The primary responsibilities require assessing materials based on conformance to specifications or conducting root cause failure analysis leveraging knowledge of chemistry and usage. Tasks will require quick turn of analysis working with a multi-discipline team, requiring careful attention to detail and can be repetitive at times. This is not a research position, but instead requires solving engineering problems and providing engineering solutions within a short period of time (days or weeks).
Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements, while spending much of their time in the laboratory. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team.
This position is an onsite role.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Collaboration with coworkers and diverse teams within a lab environment onsite.
- Majority of daily work is in a lab environment performing analysis using instruments and then documenting results.
- Assessing materials based on conformance to specifications or conducting root cause failure analysis.
This position can be a technical intern based on the candidate's classification as determined by grad year on resume and provided via questionnaire by candidate as outlined below:
- (Sophomore Technical) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program
- (Junior Technical) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program
- (Senior Technical) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program
- (Post-Graduate Technical) must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a graduate degree program (in degree fields listed in Qualifications. You Must Have) by start of internship
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Post Graduate by the start of summer 2024 in Chemistry.
- Chemistry knowledge of instrumentation such as GC/MS, FTIR, LCMS, NMR, TMA, DSC, TGA, etc.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of material safety datasheets and Military Specifications
- Pursuing an ACS certified degree in Chemistry
- Understanding of instruments used to measure material and chemical properties.
- Good communication, interpersonal, planning, and time management skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with excellent written skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

- Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
