Starlab - Space Engineer Crew Systems Integration Lead (d/f/m)

We have an exciting opportunity for a position as Space Engineer Crew Systems Integration Lead for the Starlab project in the department of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Suborbital Missions, to complement and strengthen our existing team.

In addition to our ISS/Columbus activities, we have recently been involved in the Starlab project. This involves the conception and development of a commercial space station for Low Earth Orbit, which is supported as part of the NASA Commercial Low-Earth Orbit Destinations (CLD) program with the partner NanoRacks.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide Crew Systems engineering expertise and support to the design and development of Starlab space segment 

  • Analyze, assess, and make recommendations regarding Starlab Crew Systems design and development, for the following functions:

    • General Habitability

    • Crew Quarters / Sleep Stations

    • Hygiene Provisions

    • Food Prep and Galley

    • Housekeeping

    • Waste & Trash Management

    • Stowage

    • Restraints and Mobility Aids

    • Maintenance Work Provisions

  • Definition of Crew Systems functional, interface and performance requirements and flow down into related subsystem specifications

  • Perform tailoring and tracking of Crew Systems Requirements

  • Support definition and development of low-, medium-, and high-fidelity mock-ups concepts and requirements

  • Support Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) test activities

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Degree in aerospace, electrical/mechanical engineering, computer science (or equivalent)

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of spacecraft operations/engineering, preferably with a focus on human spaceflight, Human Systems Integration, or Human Factors Engineering

  • Knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems architectures and mission support concepts

  • Ability to define and support programmatic aspects like engineering schedule and risks

  • Experience with Systems Engineering processes, techniques, e.g. with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and tools (e.g. CAMEO), Requirements Engineering and tools (DOORS, JAMA)

  • Ability to support integration and test activities on hardware and software

  • Effective at working in a multi-disciplinary and transnational team

  • Ability to learn fast, able to work pro-actively and comfortable working in full autonomy, attention to details

  • Good communication and presentation skills

  • Flexible in supporting business missions as required and open-minded spirit

  • Fluency in English, both in speech and writing - additional languages are a plus
