Sr. Staff Semiconductor Engineer, SoC SW Architect

Aptiv’s custom silicon management group provides critical custom Silicon for all Aptiv products including Autonomous Driving, ADAS, Infotainment, Zonal Control, and others. This team translates the system requirements of Aptiv’s next-generation products into the SOC/IC requirements and architectural design, then manages the technical performance of external SOC/IC design partners who design the custom silicon SOCs/ICs for use in Aptiv’s products.

Your Role

We are looking for a SoC SW architect to work closely with multiple engineering teams who are focused on the development of Aptiv’s future generation of products.

This role is based in Aptiv’s Cupertino, CA office with option for hybrid or to work remote from anywhere in USA. In your daily job you will:

Collaborate with SoC architects to understand product requirements and define a scalable SoC firmware and software architecture for the family of SoC designs within the platform.

  • Evaluate various SoC hardware features (e.g., memory map, interrupts, DMA, virtualization, security, functional safety, power management, clock and reset, debug) to ensure seamless[JP1]  integration between hardware and software. Facilitate a modular SW architecture that supports OCI containerization, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, and reusability across multiple SoCs.
  • Understand firmware and hardware interactions, identify areas for improvement, and drive performance enhancements.
  • Drive the software architecture of various SOC software frameworks (e.g., power management, multimedia, security, networking, storage, AI, virtualization, FuSa, and HMI) and align it with the Aptiv product team and design partners.
  • Work with design partners to coordinate and track SoC software deliverables, ensuring timely and successful project completion.

Your Background

  • Key ingredients for succeeding in this role are your:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development for automotive or other embedded systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing the SoC software architecture.
  • Experience with SoC firmware, Operating System, , SoC software frameworks or boot loader.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development for automotive or other embedded systems.
  • 7+ years of experience in designing the SoC software architecture.
  • Experience with Wind River, Linux, or Android operating systems
  • Experience with Real-Time OS or Safety OS.
  • Experience with automotive functional safety and cybersecurity
  • Experience with ARM based Memory and IO virtualization.
  • Experience with Ethernet and PCIe protocols.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • It’s a plus if you have automotive design experience.

Salary Range: $146,000 to $430,000

*As a candidate for this position, your salary and will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Aptiv considers relevant to the hiring decision.
