Sr. Buyer - Transmission Components

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to [Cole Engineering Center, Warren MI] three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business

You will be responsible for purchase of full transmissions in Purchased Powertrain Creativity Team. Responsible for actively participating in development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and interface with suppliers and internal stakeholders. 
Work is of a complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work, with a high level of independent judgment and focused on results.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • As a Senior Buyer, you will be leading a commodity with cross functional activities to support the development and execution of a comprehensive Business Plan.

  • Responsible for developing and executing short- and long-term global commodity strategies for your deck.

  • Responsible for maintaining sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global budget, and on-time metrics.

  • Interface with suppliers on a daily basis, leading global/regional material budget execution, negotiations and escalations in a complex environment involving a considerable amount of initiative, ambiguity, analytical work, and a high level of independent judgment

  • Interface with Engineering, CCA and other internal stakeholders to clarify prerequisites and to drive cost reduction.

  • Coordination and alignment of RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR and Technical documentation.

  • Partner with Program Managers to represent purchasing and communicate program requirements/vehicle line overview

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Logistics or related

  • Direct Commodity/Material Purchasing Experience

  • Ability to work effectively cross functionally, both internally and externally and build relationships.

  • Experience managing commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance

  • Proven high competence in negotiating skills.

  • Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Accounting, Business, Supply Chain Management, or another related field

  • MBA

  • Automotive Industry experience

  • Experience with commodities highly desired (metals, stampings and castings)

  • Knowledge of materials management and critical materials

  • Capable of interpreting market data

  • Able to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents.

  • Knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes

  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be somewhat complex

  • Developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

  • Proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
