Software Test Engineer

Job Description

As a test engineer for the Software Stability and Performance Team at GM, you will bring both technical and execution background to the software stability and performance testing team. This testing will add additional scope and exposure to our existing standard work by including extended on and off times, stress, and additional wakeup / sleep cycling.  This role will include leading our execution and testing strategies, data analysis and reporting techniques, and best practice development for testing execution on new software and electrical configurations.

This exciting position is located in the central hub for vehicle software quality and will transform how GM develops, tests, and measures the quality of software within the vehicle.  You will have the opportunity and autonomy to develop completely new approaches as well as collaborating with different business units all around GM.  This role will have a high degree of exposure and is terrific for technical and leadership growth!

What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor, integrate, and execute software exposure testing at a vehicle level on regular cadences
  • Support and execute to standard work processes, metrics and reports
  • Contribute to a knowledge base / best practice documents that are updated regularly, and constantly evolving to improve processes and best practices
  • Support the testing intake process, understanding the what we want to test and owning how the testing should be executed
  • Support automation and execution enablers to support new testing that’s never been run in a static environment before
  • Integrate with the Test Development organization so that new test suites are released and executed as standard work
  • Integrate with the operations organization to ensure our testing suites appropriately match what edge cases software is exposed to in the field
  • Integrate with integration, triage and product / program organization to drive appropriate action and response to any issues found

Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications),

  • Minimum Associates of applied science, or bachelors of science in Engineering or Computer Science w/ preferred focus in Electrical, Computer Systems, Mechanical, Aero, Computer Engineering
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of testing and integration experience
  • Working experience with API ,CAN Bus, Python, C/C++, Java ,Data Analysis, EMI/EMC testing, Ethernet Interface (Computing), Jira (Software), Robot Framework, Software Deployment, System Integration, Wire shark and X-Ray
  • Hands-on leadership expertise with in-depth knowledge of communication networks, including but not limited to CAN and Ethernet
  • Hands-on leadership expertise with in-depth knowledge of software testing on MCU and high compute (SoC) devices
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Willingness to learn, push what’s possible, and fail fast

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture and Subsystem configurations
  • Experience with data analysis such as but not limited to CAN & Ethernet Log review, DTC and other diagnostic modes (DID/RID/IODIDs etc)
  • First-hand experience with controls integration, system integration and IRTs
  • First-hand experience with End-of-Line, Programming, Static and DVT testing
  • GM organizational aptitude and experience with IRTs, SW VSEs, and PLSIE roles
  • Deep experience with existing software tools such as but not limited to IntrepidCS / NeoVI  / RadMoon / Gigastar, Robot Framework, WireShark
  • Experience with Linux and command line script execution
  • Understanding of back office architecture and vehicle interface APIs
  • Advanced degree in engineering or management/leadership
  • Knowledge of vehicle development (GVDP) milestones, VeSCoM packages and associated tools (SPR, VCAM, etc) and software deployment processes
  • Experience with JIRA & JIRA X-ray

Additional Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite full time at the Milford Proving Ground - Bldg 24 or GM Global Technical Center - Sloan Engineering Center. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington

  • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $75,000 - $119,800 Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
