Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) is looking for Senior Thermal Lab Operations Technicians to join our team in El Segundo, CA.

The successful candidate will utilize complete knowledge of testing methods including: Cryogenics, vacuum technology, and cryogenic equipment operation. Supports a sequence of operations, plans, fabricates, sets up, troubleshoots, and performs test operations associated with thermal lab facility operations. Make real time test decisions of any deviation from the test plan to avoid systems damage, coordinate with appropriate stakeholders required before resuming, minimize test delays, and are responsible for accuracy, quality, and timely completion of moderately complex technical assignments.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with team to safely operate and maintain a process plant with multiple liquid and gaseous process flows at a wide range of temperatures and pressures in continuous operation 7 days a week, 24 hours a day

  • Operate and maintain equipment including compressors, pumps, valves, mechanical couplings, instrumentation and controls

  • Execute daily shift checks of equipment, monitor system data for trends, and identify and troubleshoot equipment issues

  • Work from operating and maintenance manuals, piping and instrumentation diagrams, procedures, specifications and oral/written instructions

  • Respond to equipment and system alarms in accordance with standard and emergency operating procedures and instructions

  • Adhere to facility safety rules and safety instructions. Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste generated during operation and maintenance activities

  • Support facility operations to verify the safety and functionality of test and servicing equipment

  • Operate test and fabrication equipment such as hand and power tools, oscilloscopes, leak detectors, and vacuum pumps

  • Develop and review equipment configuration changes and operational procedures to setup, assemble, verify, and troubleshoot the facility equipment in the lab. Assemble fixtures for unique test system requirements, performing real time fixture designs/modifications in order to meet test requirements

  • Working knowledge of the repair or maintenance of these types of equipment

  • Configure, maintain, upgrade and operate basic and complex thermal vacuum systems with turbo-molecular pumps, mechanical roughing pumps, and multi-zone conditioned thermal systems, and operate lab equipment which have been equipped with local and remote-control operation

  • Perform helium leak rate measurements and analysis utilizing a leak detector or Residual Gas Analyzers (RGA) in order to determine the operational effectiveness of the test system

  • Work under the direction of the Shift Leader for daily tasks and activities

  • Aid personnel in lower related job classifications.  Perform rework of the same nature and level of difficulty as described.  Perform incidental related duties as assigned or required

  • Provide operational support to the Thermal Development Laboratory in support of Boeing company program objectives

  • Have knowledge or insight into the operation of vacuum, cryogenic and facility equipment including leak detection equipment

  • Communicate clearly and directly interface with Thermal Development Lab operations management, engineering, program partners and the test technicians

  • Position requires overtime including daily, weekends, and holidays. There is also possibility of alternative work schedules to support the 7 days continuous operation

  • Report directly to the Thermal Development Lab (TDL), El Segundo Senior Manager

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8 hour shift

  • Must be able to complete Fall Protection Training

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required) and/or SSBI/T5

  • Experience in operating and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems

  • Experience in related facility or lab environment or working with multiple liquid or gaseous process flows

  • Experience in development, production and certification testing and/or qualification processes and procedures

  • 3+ years of experience and working knowledge of repair and maintenance of pumps, valves, compressors, and mechanical systems

Summary pay range: $27.93/hour - $44.71/hour
