What You'll DoWhat You'll Do
As a System Design Engineer, you will play a key role in developing the next generation of premium Volvo cars. Your mission will be to ensure that all sensors, from LiDARs and ultrasonic sensors to cameras and radars, operate seamlessly to meet our vehicles' functional needs. You will work at the heart of our development process, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, architects, and software developers to create robust and innovative technical solutions.
In this role, you will provide leadership by creating clarity and providing direction for teams. You'll define and optimize tools and processes to enhance development within the organization, ensuring that requirements are well-balanced and aligned with our goals. Together with multidisciplinary teams, you will tackle a variety of challenges, including designing systems for core compute, breaking down functional requirements, ensuring compliance with safety and cyber security standards, and navigating legal demands.
This broad scope offers you a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of vehicle systems while honing your expertise in designing concepts, writing requirements, planning, and coordinating efforts across teams.
Who You AreWho You Are
You bring a strong background in system design paired with a passion for quality, clarity, and collaboration. You thrive in creating structure, simplifying complexity, and working in an agile, inclusive way. Your ability to connect with stakeholders and balance expectations makes you an inspiring and effective communicator.
You hold either a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in electronics, mechatronics, software, or a related field, and you have more than six years of experience in system design. You possess hands-on expertise in functional safety, such as ISO 26262 or SOTIF standards, as well as knowledge of cyber security. Your experience includes working with tools and protocols like Ethernet, TCP/IP, and CAN.
You are fluent in English and excel in communication, enabling you to collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines. While not mandatory, holding a valid EU B-level driver’s license would be considered an asset.
