Lead Mechanical Engineer - Structural Products
LOCATION: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check)
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional
LOCATION: Stevenage (Typically 3 days a week in the office, 2 days remote)

The Space focused projects you will be working could be within our current and future Telecommunications platforms e.g. OneSat, ENeo etc. or structure products associated with National, Earth observation, science and exploration programmes.
As a Mechanical Responsible Engineer / Development Responsible you will regularly undertake and manage the day-to-day progress of Mechanical Platform (MPF) and structure product development activity. These teams could be between 2-10 people and could include Mechanical Engineering Analyst(s), Mechanical Design Office and interaction with other disciplines namely thermal harness, propulsion and equipping.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM
- Lead a multidisciplinary team; Responsible for the provision of spacecraft structure products into sub-systems throughout the design, build and test phases.
- Demonstrate verification of requirements throughout the life cycle of the project
- Provide robust knowledge of lightweight aerospace structures, tools and materials to deliver structural concept and ultimately design verification
- Provide knowledge of dynamic testing of structural designs to show they are fit for purpose.
- Manage Mechanical Engineering Analysts, interpret FEM data and analysis data
- Responsible for the mechanical qualification of development element and structure products
- Provide direction to the design office in order to create 3D models, drawings and documents for MAIT, design reviews and support to System activity as required.
ABOUT YOU
- Space or aerospace/aircraft/military background would be highly advantageous although other complex engineering backgrounds will be considered
- Demonstrable knowledge and working experience of Mechanical sub-systems (including structure and ideally thermal) and verification for both in house and sub – contract sourcing.
- Project team management experience for both internal and external application to achieve OCOTOQ
- Possess strong scheduling and cost control experience
- Be highly competent in preparation & evaluation of test plans and reports
