About the role…
An exciting opportunity for an Optical Instrument Manager has arisen within our Space business in the UK. The Optoelectronic Development Engineer will be the overall Airbus optical instrument focal point for payload systems, optical product development and procurement for Earth Observation instrumentation.
How will you contribute to the team…

You will perform the day-to-day coordination of Instrument topics on behalf of Airbus.

Coordinates directly with ESAs Instrument Focal Point and the supplier Instrument Project Manager.

Brings optical instrument-specific technical, industrial and programmatic experience and knowledge to the Airbus prime team and advises on necessary areas of focus in supporting supplier.

Proactively supports identification and resolution of technical and programmatic issues by closely following the Instrument development and engaging appropriate Airbus instrument expertise as necessary.

Primary Airbus attendee for most instrument equipment supplier reviews conveying salient points to/from Prime team.

Reports directly to the Airbus Prime Project Manager but dotted line to Spacecraft Chief Engineer and Industrial Managers to support those areas.

Chairs the weekly Airbus-supplier coordination telecom and ooordinates with ESA to provide a consistent ESA/Airbus position towards supplier.
About you…
-
Good experience (several years) working in one or more of the key areas of Optical Instruments sufficient to be able to detect key issues and converse with supplier in ‘Instrument language’

Must have very clear communication skills, as the link between Airbus and suppliers and frequently being the main representative of Airbus in Instrument meetings. Must be able to accurately pick out the important points and address with the relevant people in the prime team.

Must have a really questioning and proactive mind-set to help bring the important instrument issues to the surface.

Must have a good technical knowledge but also aware of programmatic (schedule, cost etc) considerations.
