Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimisation Co-simulation Specialist

Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Multidisciplinary Analysis & Optimization (MDAO) co-simulation specialist.

Within the Digital Design, Manufacturing & Services Programme (DDMS) of Airbus, the MDAO co-simulation specialist is part of the Modeling and Simulation Team in charge of defining, developing and deploying new generation capabilities to support the development of next generation products and, when appropriate, improve practices of current programmes, in a very competitive environment.

This position offers unique opportunities to attain a high level of expertise in the digitalization of our businesses (from the point of view of processes, methods and tools) and to make Airbus’ vision “pioneering sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world” a tangible reality.

What we can achieve together

DDMS is a company-wide transformation programme aiming at operating a major breakthrough in the efficiency of development programmes.

A set of transformative principles has been defined to achieve this ambitious target:

  • Concurrent co-design of the product and its enabling systems (manufacturing, support and services), as well as of their associated processes and resources (plants, jigs and tools, ground support equipment, trainings… )

  • Product Line approaches for the out-of-cycle development of reusable engineering assets and smart components, allowing shorter development lead-times and reuse across programmes

  • Model Based System Engineering along the product life cycle, from mission and operational requirements through functional and logical descriptions up to physical implementation

  • Digital Continuity to smoothly propagate data and information from requirements and design to operations, and back from operations to design, in more agile feedback loops.

In this context, the Modeling and Simulation (M&S) department defines, develops and deploys the means enabling these principles. The successful candidate will join the Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimisation (MDAO) team within M&S. MDAO plays a central role in achieving DDMS targets. MDAO will indeed allow Airbus’ engineers to leverage all the potential of combining simulation capabilities, so as to enable the simulation and co-optimization of the most complex aeronautical systems in an unprecedented way, both in terms of the breadth of the concept and design spaces explored and in terms of speed of execution.

Your contribution

As a MDAO co-simulation specialist you will:

  • Lead activities and allocate resources aiming at demonstrating Co-simulation capabilities and benefits based on use cases defined with business specialists

  • Contribute to the definition and validation of Co-simulation enablers within an Agile team (e.g. Cloud computing, scientific simulation, data management, ontology, machine learning, Functional Mock-up Interfaces, open services for life cycle collaboration (OSLC), visualization of results)

  • Contribute to the M&S team goal to deploy an integrated solution for MDAO (including support to solution architects, interface with business experts and communication)

  • Provide guidance and training to business engineers and data scientists on optimal solutions for Co-simulation engines and platforms.

Who you are

You have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry or in industries of similar complexity

  • A first experience in co-simulation or simulations of multiple disciplines (e.g. engineering, industrial, finance, multi-physics...)

  • Experience in Cloud computing for simulation or machine learning

  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, C++

  • Knowledge about MDAO techniques and tools

  • Good understanding of systems engineering and architecting principles

  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills, plus a strong motivation to actively participate in the transformation of Airbus through training people and promoting new, disruptive capabilities

  • Knowledge of Agile development processes (SAFe)

  • An autonomous and entrepreneurial mindset

  • Proficiency in English language (negotiation level), knowledge of French, German or Spanish is a plus.
