WHAT TO EXPECT

 

JLR is seeking a dynamic Lead Engineer for our Mechatronic Control and Interfaces Chapter, which is the home of developing the control of Sensors and Actuators, Network Communication, and Car Configuration for all Powertrain Electronic Control modules. The team provides a Mechatronics service to calibration teams to ensure effective control of components considering all potential noise factors. The team must also provide robust network communication between the powertrain control modules and vehicle so distributed systems work efficiently by sharing information, feedback & control.

 

As a Lead Engineer in this team you will have a blend of both mechanical and electrical engineering experience being equally at home investigating the root cause of a mechanical failure as analysing the electrical circuits. You will develop control systems for ICE and BEV products, this will include engine sensors and actuators, such as Turbochargers, Throttles, Variable Valve lift and Timing systems, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, Temperature, pressure, oxygen and NOx Sensors, Thermal control pumps and Fans.

 

This pivotal role involves developing and executing a comprehensive strategy for calibration and controls, encompassing methodologies, standards, processes, and cutting-edge tools. As a Lead Engineer, you will collaborate closely with Product Owners to ensure a quality-centric approach throughout the development and validation phases. 

 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

 

  • Lead the development of optimized control calibrations for both Internal Combustion Engine and Battery Electric Vehicle Powertrain Control Systems.

  • Take ownership of calibration labels and ensure accurate delivery to the designated variants.

  • Validate Control and Network systems across Hardware in the Loop rigs, Powertrain in the Loop rigs, and Vehicles, potentially involving overseas testing.

  • Foster alignment with related groups within JLR Engineering and across the wider organization.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, including offshore partners, to develop robust vehicle systems.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

  • Proficiency in developing Powertrain calibration and controls.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams to deliver complex products within challenging timeframes

  • Familiarity with Automated testing in Vehicle, Hardware in the Loop, and Engine/Powertrain Test Beds

  • Proficiency in calibration related tools eg; Mathworks Matlab & Simulink, CAMEO, ETAS INCA, Vector CANalyser

  • Experience in modelling complex systems, ideally vehicle and/or Powertrain systems
