 In order to support our legal department of Space Systems Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

Legal Counsel (d/f/m) - limited for 14 months

The legal department of Space Systems is currently looking for a Legal Counsel who would, as part of his/her mission as legal counsel, coordinate the overall legal support to the “Space Exploration” Programme Unit. The Space Systems Programme Unit’s expertise includes telecommunications satellites for any mission, very-high-resolution Earth observation instruments, unique deep space missions, flawless International Space Station operations and Mars and lunar exploration. Reaching for the stars is Space Systems daily business.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Support to the project team in answering wide variety of national, European or international Request For Proposal /Invitation To Tenders 

  • Support in the drafting and negotiation of transaction documents and contracts

  • Support operational staff, within the delays required by the transaction, with advice in different areas of business law such as contract law and public procurement law

  • Contribution to the identification and mitigation of risks, at all stages of the project/contract life 

  • Management of external legal advisor support

  • Participation to building strategies in connection with pre-litigations and litigations files, and in the case of litigations, in coordination with relevant legal departments

  • Contribution to the development of legal and compliance awareness throughout the company, in coordination with the Compliance Business Partner

  • Primary interface of stakeholders involved in Space Exploration activities, within and outside Space Systems

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Completed German, English or Wales law degree with extensive experience in international and/or institutional (German and European) contract negotiations and with advanced drafting skills

  • Very good knowledge of private and public contract law

  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing/sales contracts legal issues

  • Understanding of the Space business and its regulatory/political environment is desirable but not a requirement 

  • Autonomous but also team player, with willingness to contribute to and evolve in an empowering organization

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with ability to adapt leadership to situations

  • Responsive and creative

  • Business fluent in German and English 

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
