Lead Systems Engineer (Warwick University, GB)

REQ ID: 122458

JOB TITLE: Lead Systems Engineer

SALARY: £45,249 - £61,000

POSTING DATE: 03/07/2024

END DATE:18/07/2024

LOCATION: Warwick University

We’re re-examining our vehicles and what a vehicle means in the emerging world of automation, connectedness, electrification and the shared economy. New ideas, new technology, and new approaches to mobility are our business. Join a team of next generation thinkers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We are looking to appoint a talented Lead Systems Engineer in support of ensuring the key systems that comprise our electrical powertrain are robustly developed and reviewed before deployment into vehicle programmes.

Our electric powertrain is a complex collection of systems. Its role is to manage torque, heat flux, and electrical energy to efficiently and reliably satisfy the requirements of the target vehicle. We are looking for a passionate engineer to drive the process that ensures these requirements are met.

Advanced powertrain projects occur ahead of vehicle programmes and are therefore responsible for mitigating technology and business risks posed by new electric propulsion technologies at the point of introduction to vehicle programmes. This role will therefore ensure that the technology delivery framework is applied right across advanced powertrain projects so that the specification, analysis, design, quality, verification and validation of this toolkit traceably minimises technology and business risk, enabling fast execution on future powertrain production programmes.

Role success is represented by the traceable demonstration of the technology toolkit and integrated powerpack solutions to technology readiness level 5 and manufacturing readiness level 3 through the technology delivery framework, and sponsored by the gateway review panel.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the application of the technology delivery framework for advanced powertrain projects to quickly, robustly and traceably manage the development of JLR’s third generation of pure electric powertrains
  • Aid a robust and speedy deployment of a technology delivery framework across the domain (batteries, electric drive units, power electronics, others)
  • Provide technical support and assistance across the domain to ensure the creation of gateway artefacts that address the objectives of each gateway, and based on model based systems engineering evidence
  • Elicit and implement improvements in the link between model based systems engineering evidence and the technology delivery framework gateway artefacts
  • Identify and engage with all key interested parties in support of each gateway review along with scheduling, preparing for and running each gateway review (closing each gateway by managing actions and remaining risks as agreed by the gateway review panel)

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Systems engineering experience on complex systems along with engineering based reviews management experience
  • Experience in automotive advanced engineering or automotive research environments and EV (Electric Vehicle) experience
  • Requirements management in one or more of the following fields: power, energy, efficiency, torque, durability, high voltage systems, software
  • Knowledge of powertrain technologies along with CAD.Catia knowledge
  • Educated to Degree level in a Systems, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic or related field and a holder of a full UK driving licence
