HR/LR Business Partner

Job Description

This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

As a member of GM's Human Resources Team, you will lead and coordinate assigned business functions in day-to-day HR/LR activities and provide direction and leadership that aligns and supports our objectives, mission and culture.

You will work strategically with assigned functional business leaders in the plant to develop positive working relationships, build engagement with our Union partners, problem-solve, attract and retain talent, including collaborating with COEs relative to strategic workforce planning.

Collaborate with plant leadership to provide direction on specific transformation efforts, talent development, performance management, and workforce/organizational planning.

As a member of the Oshawa Assembly HR/LR Team, you will demonstrate behaviours that promote a strong inclusive workplace culture that attracts and motivates others while supporting our overall 
HR/LR strategic objectives.

Hold a strong financial and forecasting acumen. Possess a deep understanding of our Company, brands, function, and products. 

Understand legal requirements at an execution-level related to the management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Labour Relations:

  • Provide guidance on the administration of collective agreements and workplace policies

  • Promote a positive working relationship with our Union partners focused on problem-solving

  • Exercise independent judgment within defined procedures; discipline, grievances, etc.

  • Participate in 3rd Step Grievance Meetings and create supporting documentation

  • Conduct workplace investigations

  • Maintain accurate hourly employment records in Workday (HRIS)

  • Participate and support Local Negotiations

  • Support LR Training initiatives

  • Support hourly onboarding/orientation process

  • Administer Plant Rules

  • Provide guidance and resolution to conflictsGenerate ad hoc reports

Salaried Human Resources:

  • Influence the strategic agenda by building relationships and contributing to business results

  • Work with Truck Sector MFG HR to ensure successful completion of regional initiatives

  • Interpret HR policies and procedures and engage SME contacts as needed for support

  • Provide talent management and performance management guidance to leaders and employees

  • Participate in subHRM Committee Meetings

  • Conduct workplace investigations

  • Participate in interviews and support onboarding activities for salaried new hires

  • Ensure transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner in Workday

  • Complete HR special projects/assignments as requested

    Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution

    • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and work to plan

    • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills

    • High integrity and proven ability to manage confidential information

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Highly proficient use of HR Systems and software applications (i.e. Workday, Excel, etc.)

    • Skill and proficiency in a wide range of HR/LR practice areas

    Competencies:

    • Influencing without Authority, Managerial Courage, Action Oriented, Ability to Learn, Situational Judgment, and Dealing with Ambiguity

    Education and/or Training:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

    • Previous HR/LR experience working within a unionized manufacturing environment is preferred

    This position may require off-shift work; must be willing and able to work flexible and additional hours as required.
