Health and Safety Officer for Airbus UpNext HyPower demonstrator (m/f/d)

Job Description:

With HyPower, Airbus UpNext has the ambition to deliver a disruptive and innovative project to demonstrate the potential of a sustainable power generation source used onboard the aircraft. This demonstrator will have a crucial role in determining the potential of hydrogen as an energy source in aviation.

This position is within the Airbus UpNext subsidiary in Spain and you are accountable for supporting and contributing to the execution strategy, organization, operations and performance of the Industrialization.

Your Main missions 

As part of the implementation of a pilot project involving the use of hydrogen as an energy carrier for the aeronautical industry, the Health and Safety Officer will be in charge of Risk Management (Industrial and HSE) for the Airbus UpNext HyPower demonstrator in Spain. 

Your activities will evolve during the project steps.

You will join the Demonstrator Team as the early stage of the design, manufacturing and assembly phases and be responsible for operational safety of the different testing phases. In particular, a multi-system test bench will require a complete bench and infrastructure development hosted on a new dedicated area in Getafe. You will also act as the HSE interface with the various internal and external players.

Your missions will be:

  • Identifying the regulations, standards and good practices applicable on site and create the HSE standard for the project and the host sites.

  • Leading and contributing to risk analyses (PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, AMDEC, ATEX, HSE, etc.), including all modifications (MOC)

  • Being in charge of HSE meetings between the various parties involved.

  • Suggesting technical and organisational improvements to reduce risks and help the project team to understand and implement the results of safety analyses.

  • Taking part in the tests required for acceptance of the installation.

  • Together with the DEMO team, drawing up safety documents (instructions, procedures) for both the site and future tests.

  • Ensuring that tests are in line with the risk analysis and prevention/protection measures and in the field that the prevention/protection measures are in place and effective before the tests start (pre-test safety review: check list, visual test inspection).

  • Participating in/co-leads the daily briefing before each test. 

  • Tracking HSE anomalies and participate in their immediate or delayed resolution, ensuring that any anomalies are systematically reported to the log file.

  • Defining training plan and/ or run training/awareness-raising sessions on hazards, risk prevention and control. 

  • Being responsible for HSE reporting and filling in performance indicators (KPIs defined by the Group/DL).

  • Representing the company at HSE meetings with the receiving site and project partners.

What you bring:

  • Knowledge of industrial processes, on equipment and facility design rules.

  • Experience as a PSM engineer or risk manager in industry or on a pilot using chemicals or gases. 

  • Expertise in the safety aspects of flammable gases, pressurized vessel and electrical generator, turning and industrial machines.

  • Proficiency in safety reviews, risk analyses and on-site safety common inspections.

  • Able to demonstrate direct influence of process safety culture.

  • A proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

  • Authority, Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability.

  • You are eager to step out of the comfort zone and have the willingness to move fast and try new ways of working as per Airbus UpNext culture.
