Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a FOD LEADER to join our Quality Department based in Mobile, AL
Job Summary
This role is major for AIRBUS in-Service aircraft but also major for AIRBUS Mobile Site product and people safety. The FOD leader will lead and drive the resolution of complex FOD quality issues and continuous improvement projects by setting the measurement standards and identifying/facilitating improvements to increase:
- FOD Process performance and product alignment to standards
- Reliability of FOD processes
- Repeatability of FOD processes, at initial design phase, before any process changes are made and continuously through the life of a product.
The FOD specialist perimeter of action will cover the complete scope from FAL to Customer line and will have authority cross-functions as well as being a pa part of the Quality Improvement Team but due to the criticality of the topic, they will have regular exchanges with the HO SA Quality and with the HO Mobile site.

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your challenges:
1-Drive FOD process improvements by applying lean and quality FOD principles, using appropriate methods and tools. Ensure deployment and completion of FOD eradication projects and most importantly deployment and execution of the Mobile FOD road-map described above. 25%
- Ensure effectiveness of FOD improvement actions from the Mobile FOD plan 2025
- Lead / Manage Sophisticated Practical Problem Solving activities linked to FOD
- Ensure levels of Safety are maintained by creating and handling FOD Events and FOD Safety Related Items (SARI)
- 2-Drive FOD Process Alignment and lead FOD process deployment in local areas, in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS), including compliance to all applicable regulatory (EASA, FAA), standards (EN9100/9110), policies, directives, processes and methods. Set the FOD quality standard for both new service introduction at initial design before any process changes are made and continuously through the product life cycle. 25%
- 3-Engage with various collaborators and represent the FOD lead in Multi Functional Teams. As needed, convince and/or persuade others to follow ideas and proposals.15%
- 4-Enhance product conformity attestation system. 10%
- Optimize FOD learning path and predefined FOD requirements, in order to produce highly qualified delegated inspectors
- 5-Develop and deploy new FOD KPIs based on Top Company Objectives and local operational targets to ensure that standards of Quality are improved and/or adapted where necessary 5%
Your boarding pass:
- Education:
- Required: Bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering, industrial engineering, or similar field. May substitute relevant experience in place of the degree.
- Experience:
- Required: Minimum 10 years, preferably with an international aviation company in Aircraft Manufacturing/ Quality/Lean Management/ Quality Inspection of entire Aircraft or Aircraft installations
- Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
- Good Knowledge about non-conformance management and Root Cause Analysis methods within Airbus.
- Strong and effective Practical Problem Solving skills.
- Understanding of the Kaizen approach to Manufacturing.
- Knowledge of the Production process and build cycle.
- Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing
- Knowledge of aircraft mechanical & electrical installation.
- Familiar with the American aviation market, its Airlines and Airline Representatives
- Ability to quickly understand procedural and technical documents.
- Project management skills
- Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
- Strong communication skills through all levels of the organization and Functions. Ability to adapt communication at different levels
