FCAS has the potential to become a future key pillar to secure the sovereignty of Europe, strategically, technologically, and industrially! With Spain joining the Franco-German cooperation, the programme took an important step towards its Europeanization. As FCAS is much more than “just” a new Fighter, but an integrated & combined system-of-system including existing and future platforms and tools, the programme will integrate a wide range of the Airbus DS portfolio and competencies.

Your tasks and responsibilities:
Development and in-service support of aircraft propulsion systems for various military aircraft programmes with focus on combat aircraft.
• Integration of propulsion systems into aircraft, i.e. specification, qualification and certification with respect to requirements, safety and reliability and according to the Airbus Defence and Space development processes:
- Derivation of requirements, definition of concept and system architecture,
- Development of system and equipment specifications,
- Development of qualification programme, support to certification,
- Definition, monitoring and analysis of ground and flight tests,
- Preparation of certification and clearance documentation,
- Control of interfaces to other systems and functions,
- Build line support with respect to system queries/issues/waivers,
- Support to system health management activities.
• In-service support for the respective systems and equipment:
- Technical support to defect or problem investigations (root cause analysis, development of problem solutions and modifications),
- Technical support to modification processes,
- Preparation of certification and clearance documentation.
• Technical management of system or component manufacturers and/or suppliers during development and in-service support.
• Solving thermo- and fluid dynamical as well as mechanical engineering tasks and problems:
- Performing system analyses with respect to performance, dynamic behaviour, operation, control, etc., using handbook methods, simulation tools, etc..
- Design, coding and maintenance of computer programs for synthesis and performance analysis of existing and/or future propulsions systems.
• Continuous monitoring of available technologies and identification of technology gaps.
• Managing interfaces to related technical departments and functions (e.g. programme management, procurement, technical publications, technology management).
• Supporting system engineers at team level
• Cooperation and coordination with internal, external, national and international subcontractors, suppliers, customers and partner companies.
Desired skills and qualifications
• Aerospace engineer (at least 4 years university degree) or equivalent
• Profound knowledge in the area of propulsion systems:
- Detailed knowledge of aviation engine technologies, engine performance, thermodynamic cycles, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, as well as engine operational behaviour and control.
- Knowledge of flight / mission control systems, health monitoring systems, MRO, air vehicle mission analysis and performance,
- Good knowledge of air vehicle general systems and system architectures.
• Profound knowledge of and experience in equipment and system engineering
- Experience with system modelling and simulation tools,
- Experience with requirement management tools (e.g. DOORS) would be a plus,
- Software coding (FORTRAN, MATLAB/Simulink etc.).
• Solid experience in the area of (military) aerospace specific development, qualification and certification processes would be a plus.
• Good planning and organisational skills.
• Good ability to interact and communicate with international subcontractors, suppliers, customers and partner companies.
• English language: negotiation level, German language: advanced level would be a plus.
• Ability to work in an international team, self-reliant and systematic, fast comprehension, stress resistance, being prepared for worldwide business travels.
This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
