Mission and activities

At Airbus Defence and Space the Simulation Department develops top-notch, high-fidelity simulations for a variety of aircraft, supporting the entire development life cycle. We design, develop, integrate and deliver complex training & engineering simulations to our customers. At the core, our simulations are distributed real-time applications.

Under the term “Virtual Engineering” (VE), the team is establishing a new way-of-working in the FCAS programme:  The mission is to generate and deploy a central simulation and all associated governance, processes and tools, in order to support the development, integration and verification of the FCAS Remote Carrier Demonstrators.

For the development of the FCAS Remote Carrier (RC) simulation, we are looking for a Simulation Software Engineer. As a member of our team you will support the development of real-time simulations as well as the associated processes and tools to enhance the engineering approach within Airbus Defence & Space with the Virtual Engineering philosophy.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Design, develop and modify simulation specific components and models to enable aircraft and synthetic environment simulation systems (mainly C++)

  • Coordinate and support the simulation-specific architecture development (functions and interfaces) for simulation models provided by development teams and enforce their functional and behavioral adherence to the corresponding RC systems

  • Integrate in-house or external software components and perform unit tests of software modules

  • Analyze and correct problems identified during testing

  • Collect system needs and derive simulation requirements for additional simulator and synthetic environment functionalities

  • Modify and develop graphical user interface components for simulation control systems

As you will work in an international environment, occasional travels will be necessary.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor or higher degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering or a related discipline

  • Long term relevant experience in the field of software development (design, integration, testing)

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming and script languages (C/C++, Bash, Python, Powershell, …)

  • Working knowledge of aircraft systems engineering and software integration & test

  • Experience in Simulation on System and on System-of-Systems level

  • Knowledge of tools / technologies:

    • Windows, Linux

    • 3rd generation of software version control Systems

    • Agile / Lean methodologies and related tools

    • Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub)

    • Simulation Frameworks

    • Experience in build systems (e.g. CMake), packaging (e.g. conan.io), Frameworks (QT / QML) is a plus

  • Soft- and Communication skills are key:

    • You are able to work in a team and are an excellent team player

    • You can work independently

    • You are proactive

    • You are fluent in English
