Airbus Helicopters is looking for an

Experienced Flight Control System Development Engineer (d/f/m)

You will be integrated in a team inside the «Guidance & Control» department. The main objective is the development, design, certification and serial support of autopilot, fly-by-wire and UAV systems, related equipment and corresponding tools and processes. Furthermore the team works on research and innovation topics in order to ensure the technical leadership of Airbus Helicopters. 
Our objective is to make helicopter flight safe, easy and performant. We are a multidisciplinary international team of passionate engineers with a long experience in Flight Control Systems.
Proximity to the product, prototyping and experimentation are in our DNA. Our operating model is based on multi-competency and on the end-to-end design: Research studies, pre-design, architecture design, software design, certification, safety, simulation, bench, V&V activities and flight test analysis.
To support this model, SW, HW and tools knowledge is key. It is necessary to design safety critical systems like FCS and contribute to the efficiency/quality of the team work.
While being creative, working on Flight Control Systems, is clearly requiring a simultaneous application of rigor and follow Standards and further the discipline to perform the required substantiation of the design activities in front of internal stakeholders and also authorities. We are looking for a highly engaged specialist with both a solid computer culture and a willingness to share the expertise and grow further (Expert, CVE, TVE). You will work with existing methods and tools and you will propose, discuss and implement new solutions for simulation, design, and automatization. A strong collaboration attitude towards Chief Engineering, Program, Industry and Customer Support and contribution to Plateaus is prerequesit

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours (minimum 30) and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your location

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Understanding and applying techniques of identification, automatic control, including filtering and estimation, stability control. Ability to use info/data from sensors in control/estimation algorithms.

  • Knowing and applying application data, specific processing techniques and technologies related to Flight Control Systems.

  • Identifying the activities of the development life cycle that are necessary to develop a system/product and provide the level of confidence which is consistent with regulation and program requirements

  • Defining checkpoints and reviews with associated maturity expectation aligned with program phases and gates

  • Able to provide sufficient detailed data and information about system elements to enable the implementation consistent with architectural entities as defined in models and views of the system architecture and in accordance with the allocated requirements.

  • Exchange with Research Centers, Universities, Authorities, Working Groups and other Airbus Divisions when required

Desired skills and qualifications

  • A master degree in Aeronautical engineering, Electrical engineering, or equivalent

  • Several years of experience

  • Good soft skills and team spirit

  • very good knowledge and an experience in engineering & simulation, control law design, aeronautics

  • good Project Management and System Engineering ability

  • good Civil and/or military certification knowledge

  • good Aeronautical development standards (e.g. DO178, ARP-4754, DO254, DO160)

  • Tools: C-language, Linux, SCADE, DOORS, xml, Matlab/Simulink, MS-office, G-Suite

  • Languages: you are fluent in English and the willingness to learn German.
