What you’ll do

We are looking for an Engineering Manager of AD/ADAS Functions & V2X, who can meet the requirements for the engineering manager on Product Delivery, Technical Health, Way of Working, Create clarity for empowerment, Fluency with Data, Continues Feedback loops, Business Outcome Ownership, Team Leadership, Managing Up and experience.Product Delivery

  • Working with your team, you are responsible for technical delivery. You are an active part in the day-to-day delivery and define the working
  • methodology and facilitate/delegate the needed events.
  • You are effective at negotiating the implementation of technical features,and to launch your improvement.
  • You ensure that your product delivery connects to the vision and mission ofthe product that is set by the Product Manager.
  • As part of your delivery, you prioritize operational tasks (such as life cycling and modernization) as highly as new development.

Technical Health

  • Your role involves overseeing the technology roadmap for one or more products, and it is crucial to align it with Volvo Cars' architectural principles.
  • You should consider the following aspects related to Technical Health:
  • Crafting a Tech Strategy: You should work closely with your team to develop and continuously update a tech strategy that aligns with the product vision and strategy. Remember, a solid tech strategy is fundamental to the success of your product.
  • Managing Technical Debt: Your role is accountable for helping your product counterpart and the team understand when it's appropriate to take on technical debt and when it's necessary to pay it off. Balancing these decisions is critical for long-term success.
  • Considering Key Factors: When making technical decisions, you are responsible for ensuring that the team considers factors such as the total cost of operation, security, scalability, maintainability, and testability. Strive to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) that can measure these aspects effectively.
  • Promoting a Culture of Efficiency: Encourage a culture that prioritizes thinking about whether to reuse, buy, or build when tackling technical challenges. This approach can lead to more efficient solutions.
  • Staying Informed: Stay updated on the initiatives of central and adjacent teams and actively contribute to enhancing relationships and collaboration with them. Building strong relationships across teams is essential for successful execution.
  • Adhering to Architectural Principles: Ensure that all decisions made by your team are guided by Volvo Cars' Digital Architecture Principles. These principles should serve as the foundation for your technical choices.

Way of Working

  • You are responsible for overseeing the working methodology and facilitating/delegate the needed events.
  • In alignment with the team, you decide on the working methodology. You ensure that the relevant events are happening and follow up on the outcome.

Create clarity for empowerment

  • Ensures that the team has clarity and understanding of the vision, guidelines, and other boundaries in which the team can thrive. You participate in technical discussions to stay updated in relevant technology domains to be able to coach the team and ensure the right resources are in place, on time, meeting the roadmap needs.

Fluency with Data

  • You can use insights you gather from the data to help drive roadmap planning and quarterly goal setting. You proactively think about how to present progress against those goals (e.g., building the right dashboards and reports) to a broad audience. You help to guide your team's use of data and emphasize its role in decision-making. You can effectively translate insights into an understanding of the causal factors that drive product success.
  • You ensure that the team is healthy as e.g., measured by KPIs such as attrition rate, frequent request for feedback, etc.

Continues Feedback loops

  • You translate the specifications into technical solutions. You continuously align with the PM (Product Manager) and other appointed stakeholders to get feedback on the technical solutions and ensure the results match the design expectations. You can critically assess your team's design work and give clear and constructive feedback to help improve its usability. You understand the value of consistent design across the company and are an advocate for effectively using design systems to make products consistent and understandable for customers.

Business Outcome Ownership

  • You are responsible for the outcomes driven by your team and are effective at making adjustments to direction or process to maximize those team outcomes. You can identify when your team is hitting diminishing returns and recommend where to shift that investment. You are consistently able to set and achieve meaningful OKR's for yourself and your team.

Team Leadership

  • You are leading the whole delivery team; including PX related processes for all employees in the team (e.g., salary setting, appraisals, priorities).
  • You are responsible for helping members of the team identify areas of strength and opportunity, and work with them to find ways to build their skills and improve against the relevant product competencies and Volvo Core competencies. You train/mentor/coach engineers so they can reach their full potential as valued members of the organization.
  • You apply situational leadership that helps the team move swiftly and methodically through the forming/storming/norming/performing stages. If needed, you make the relevant adjustments in the team if it is not performing. As well you plan a proper celebration when the team is performing well!
  • As Engineering Manager you find, recruit, and hire top engineering talent for your product.

Managing Up

  • You can effectively influence strategic decisions with senior managers within and outside the product org. You are able to influence prioritization and resourcing decisions to give your initiatives the support they need.

What you’ll bring

  • MS/BS Degree in engineering, science, information systems or computer science
  • 5+ years experience as a technical leader of ADAS product: feature specification, function safety, roadmap planning, etc. Proved hands-on development experience and production program experience are required.
  • 5+ years experience as a technical manager of ADAS function team with more than 10 members.
  • Good strategic planning capability by considering both business and technical needs.
  • Good knowledge on ADAS solution/architecture, including highway NOA, parking assistance, HD-map, data collection, connected safety, HP-GNSS, certification, etc.
  • Good knowledge on ADAS functions, sensor hardware, domain controller, chipsets, system architecture, SW development&integration, etc.
  • Good knowledge on ADAS regulation(i.e. R79, ISO26262, SOTIF) and rating protocols(C-NCAP, C-ICAP, E-NCAP, AD grading).
  • Experienced in ADAS supplier management with knowledge on the common ADAS solution from the market.
  • Good English skill for technical and business discussion
