Job Description:

A vacancy for an  “Electronics and/or military Avionics Airworthiness Engineer,” (d/f/m) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Manching.

The Airbus Defence and Space Technical Certification team provides certification expertise across all Airbus Defence and Space aircraft programmes and represents Airbus DS in rulemaking & international industrial standardization working groups.

Your Mission

The main mission of the Electronics and/or Military Avionics Designated Airworthiness Engineer (DAE) is to manage the Airworthiness Technical activities for Electronics and/or Military Avionics technical disciplines (Artificial intelligence, Safety, Electronics, Hardware, Software, Environmental Qualification, etc…) with Aviation Authorities' specialists/ experts for Type Certification, Supplemental Type Certification and Changes to TC; leading the certification panels and ensuring coordination with CVEs, and to influence the rulemaking and standardisation tasks.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead the certification, qualification and  Continued Airworthiness activities regarding Technical Airworthiness matters for the Electronics and/or Military Avionics technical disciplines;
  • Provide airworthiness approvals and exercise DOA/MDOA privileges for the scope of assigned responsibility as delegated by the Chief of the Office of Airworthiness;
  • Be responsible for the timely achievement of certification & qualification milestones through identification of Major program technical issues and associated risk management plan, identification of regulation and interpretation issues and identification of Safety and Certification Compliance Issues;
  • Lead the necessary activities for the investigation of incidents and accidents for those aspects regarding Airworthiness Technical knowledge;
  • Provide technical Certification knowledge in Electronics and/or Military Avionics to the design organization, or special projects;
  • Influence the definition of certification policies for the technical discipline under his/her scope, and promote their consistent application across programmes, including the participation in the development of new and foreseen technical certification strategies or policies, in particular for novel or unusual design features or for compliance demonstration method improvement;
  • Represent Airbus DS in rulemaking and international industrial standardization working groups for technical certification; coordinate with Airbus Commercial and Airbus Helicopter Airworthiness Technical Organisations;
  • Contribute to technical certification derisking in Airbus DS Research and Technology (R&T) / Research and Development (R&D) projects related to the Airworthiness Technical;
  • Develop specialized training to the overall Design Organization on technical certification matters under scope;
  • Gather and disseminate Technical Certification regulatory knowledge and expertise within Airbus DS, particularly for CVE/DAE community, to maintain state of art;

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering

  • Proven experience (more than 10 years) in Airworthiness functions related to Electronics and/or Military Avionics discipline

  • Experience interfacing with the Aviation Authorities, will be a plus for the position

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Fluent English. Good knowledge of German language will be a plus for the position
