Summary of the role:
Exciting role as Data Scientist of Forward Model Quality in Vehicle Platform Unit of Volvo APAC R&D team, incl overall responsibility for securing inhouse system development quality.
We are now looking for a Data Scientist of Forward Model Quality to strengthen our team in house development capability. You will work with a global quality team to secure our product development quality as well as current model quality improvement by applying Machine Learning and Data Mining technology.

What you will do

  • Data mining or extracting usable data from history warranty data generated both internally and externally
  • Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers from warranty data
  • Carrying out preprocessing of structured and unstructured data from field claim history
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems
  • Processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of data to be used for analysis
  • Analyzing large amounts of information to find patterns and solutions
  • Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms for quality trend
  • Review FMEA and give constructive suggestions based on the enlightenment obtained from the real-data
  • Propose solutions and strategies to tackle quality challenges for current models
  • Collaborate with Quality teams and Global Data Scientist community to ensure efficient cooperation
  • Presenting results in a clear manner in English

What you'll bring

  • Programming Skills – knowledge of statistical programming languages like R, Python, and database query languages like SQL, Hive, Pig is desirable. Familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++ is an added advantage.
  • Statistics – Good applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc. Proficiency in statistics is essential for this role.
  • Strong Math Skills (Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra) - understanding the fundamentals of Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra is important as they form the basis of a lot of predictive performance or algorithm optimization techniques.
  • Machine Learning – good knowledge of machine learning methods like k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests.
  • Data Wrangling – proficiency in handling imperfections in warranty\Claim data is an important aspect of the data scientist assignment.
  • Experience with Data Visualization Tools like matplotlib, ggplot, d3.js., Tableau that help to visually encode data
  • Excellent Communication Skills – it is incredibly important to describe findings to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or relevant fields in Machine Learning is preferred
  • Strong Software Engineering Background, hands-on experience with data science tools
  • Problem-solving aptitude, analytical mind and great business sense
  • Proven Experience as Data Analyst or Data Scientist
  • Knowledge of Automobile, 6-Sigma or Forward Model Quality is a plus
  • Fluent in English Oral\Reading\Writing Skills
