Job Description:
Airbus Defence & Space is looking for a Competitiveness and Cost Engineer within the Earth Observation division based in Getafe, Spain.
You will join a international team of 20 people, in the Competitiveness Engineering department whose main activity is to support the pre-sales teams in the choice and costing of technical-commercial solutions.
You will have an overview of the engineering of Airbus Satellites and satellite systems, whether Observation or Telecom. You will be in contact with several transverse functions.

Your mission:
The mission of our department is to assess the costs of future projects and ensure the competitiveness of the EOS (Earth Observation Systems) division of Airbus Defense & Space. Our cost assessment is directly used in commercial proposals to our institutional and export clients. Our department in Madrid is also supporting future projects in Telecom, interface Launchers and Sub systems markets.
During upstream studies, our clients ask us for support from the beginning of the project in order to decide on the best “design to costs” and “design to value” approach. To meet this challenge, we need colleagues who can combine extensive technical knowledge with cost data.
In contact with management for internal reviews, and involved in bid strategy meetings, you will have a key and recognized role in the business acquisition process.
The role of Competitiveness Engineer then opens up opportunities for positions as study manager, bid manager, industrial manager, etc.
Your challenges:
• Lead and coordinate costing activities on business proposals and studies assigned to you; supporting pricing activities to finalize commercial offers
• Participate in the analysis of customer requests by clarifying the needs
• Participate in the pricing strategy, including subcontractors, provisions, cash analysis, margins and financial analysis.
• In the upstream phases, provide advice on the 'make or buy' choices and participate in the 'design to value ' by guiding engineering towards specifications and designs allowing the best economic efficiency.
Business trips are to be expected a few times a year in Europe and exceptionally around the world and, therefore, you must be willing to travel accordingly.
Your profile:
• Holder of an engineering degree in the space field
• Knowledge of satellite design and spatial design and manufacturing procedures
• Strong ability to argue and influence
• Strategic vision, ability to analyse a large amount of data to draw simple and readable conclusions and recommendations.
• Linguistic skills: Spanish negotiation level; English advanced level.
This position requires a security clearance or requires being eligible for clearance by recognized authorities.
