Community Operations Group Manager

Job Description

Onsite -This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Oshawa on a full-time basis.

The Role

The Community Operations Group Manager will have responsibility for leading the Sustainable Workplaces Community Operations team in the region. This involves leading a team of Community Leaders who are the single point contact for the business teams in the region, and partner with our service providers to deliver world class Maintenance, Housekeeping, Roads & Grounds services through the execution of a facilities service agreement. Key priorities in this position will be the development of strategic goals that move the team forward and driving continuous improvement, strategic collaboration with the Senior leadership in the region as well as with the peers across North America, and the ability to communicate well in leading the team.

What You'll Do

  • Leader in Safety – Executive Safety Review Boards (ESRB), participation and support of Emergency Response (ERCT), Workplace Safety System (WSS) and Safety Contract Management (SCM)

  • Model a safety culture of personal caring and inspire the operations teams to transform our presence in safety

  • Execute General Motor’s Vision and Strategy highlighting the value of the operations team in transforming GM culture

  • Develop leaders able to articulate and execute the vision as well as execute creative data driven problem solving with a strategic orientation

  • Exemplify and teach GM Behaviors

  • Drive attainment of daily facility operational goals (enabling consistent facility management, maintenance, energy supply, cleanliness, environmental compliance and material handling initiatives)

  • Business Partner development –Continuously improve skillset of engaged suppliers with a focus on workspace excellence

  • Business Integration – Prioritization of business unit needs in operations coupled with seamless integration of those priorities in Sustainable Workplaces engineering and project planning

  • Comprehensive enterprise planning, including support of operations in asset sustainment prioritization and strategy

  • Develop a Continuous improvement mindset throughout the team. Ensure GMS is the foundation for continuous improvement via empowered team members lead by our business partners.  Also, leading the team in utilizing Operational Excellence as a continuous improvement tool

  • Manage conflicting priorities among the needs of multiple business units and Sustainable Workplaces

  • Represent GM as the Labor leader for the facility space and work to ensure contractual agreements meet the intent of the campus (where applicable).  This includes complexity among our UAW partners, our Business partners, and our Contract partners.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Management or in a related field and / or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years in facilities operations or related field experience

  • Strong computer skills including being proficient at Microsoft Office software.

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

  • Strong problem solving/decision making skills

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to track, develop, and interpret metrics

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
