We’re currently looking for a Battery Modeling Engineer Intern to join our team at Nissan Tech Center North America (NTCNA) in Farmington Hills, MI. This role holds fundamental responsibility of designing, performing, and analyzing complex electrical, electrochemical tests on LV and HV lithium-ion batteries. The ideal candidate will contribute to the successful implementation of 4R projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule while maintaining a focus on safety, process optimization, data integrity, and continuous improvement.

A Day in the Life:   

  • Design and conduct complex electrical and electrochemical tests on LV and HV Lithium-ion batteries.

  • Manage characterization equipment, including battery cyclers, DAQs, and environmental chambers.

  • Maintain testing logs, report and analyze data, and implement continuous process improvements for quality and safety.

  • Develop research plans, set up new equipment, and survey scientific literature for advancements in battery technology.

  • Work collaboratively with research and business development teams, ensuring smooth planning and execution of projects.

Who We’re Looking for: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in Master's/PhD in Energy/Electrical Engineering/Materials/Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • GPA of 3.0 or above (Candidates will be required to provide an official or unofficial transcript during the application process for verification.)

  • 1+ years of experience in designing, performing, and analyzing complex electrical, electrochemical tests on LV and HV batteries.

  • Strong understanding of battery chemistry, electrochemistry, and battery/energy management systems.

  • Hands-on experience with HV lithium-ion batteries.

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of lithium-ion battery aging, degradation, cycling, impedance and electrochemical characterization.

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of lithium-ion batteries, chemistries, aging and degradation, cycling and electrochemical characterization are a must.

  • Additional experience with ESS batteries is highly preferred.

  • Ability to perform work onsite in Farmington Hills, MI.

  • Potential for 10% travel (day and overnight).
