Systems Engineer

A key member of the Hypermotive Systems Engineering team, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for the derivation and management of requirements for engineering projects, using the results from calculations and computer simulations, applicable standards and regulations, and customer requirements to support the design and development of vehicle electrical systems.

You will work on highly varied projects, across a wide range of vehicles and applications (marine, automotive, supercar, motorsport, commercial vehicle, off-highway, stationary power, etc.), focusing on the development and integration of fuel cells, fuel storage, energy storage and electrical systems. Your input will directly contribute not only to the successful delivery of the project, but also support the success and growth of the business.

Within this role you will provide Systems Engineering support across the entire engineering
V-cycle. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with customers and other key stakeholders to support the generation of project requirements
  • Documentation, communication and subsequent management of all project requirements across the project team
  • Review, understand and negotiate any trades in conflicting or unrealistic requirements
  • Requirement traceability showing how requirements are intended to be met and then evidence of meeting requirement
  • Derivation and decomposition of requirements into sub-functional requirements
  • Verification and validation test plan derivation
  • Supporting final system integration, commissioning and testing
  • Customer technical support
  • Project/product life cycle management
  • Development of ePowertrain simulation models including electrical, mechanical and control systems

You will work closely with the other functions within the engineering team to ensure right first time, on-time delivery of the project within budget. You will support design review, team, supplier and customer meetings as required and seek to resolve any issue assigned to you in a timely manner

Alongside this, you will support the development and roll-out of Hypermotive’s quality processes and supporting tools associated with your work and build Hypermotive’s engineering capability to support business growth.

Education and Skills Requirements

Educated to degree level in engineering or other relevant discipline,

3+ years’ experience in relevant role and industry.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Systems engineering experience in marine / automotive / fuel cell / transport industry,
  • Knowledge of, and experience of working to, marine and/or automotive engineering standards and processes,
  • Appreciation of safety, type approval and certification, including functional safety (IEC 61508, ISO 26262), UN ECE Regulation 10, UN ECE Regulation 100 and other relevant standards & legislation,
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing environment,
  • Experience in working on the delivery of time-pressured projects.

Skills preferred:

  • Experience in working in a product development environment,
  • Experience in the use of MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow toolchains,
  • Experience in systems modelling and simulation,
  • Experience in model-based and/or embedded C/C++ software code development,
  • Experience of system testing and commissioning.
  • Experience of FMEA, FTA and similar risk/fault based analyses.
  • Experience of systems architecture definition.
