Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Chapter Senior Manager to join the team in either Seattle, WA; Berkeley, MO; El Segundo, CA; North Charleston, SC; Plano, TX; or Pleasanton, CA.

The Software Chapter's mission is to make Boeing’s Information Technology and Data Analytics (IT&DA) Software Development processes, tools and people are the strongest in the aerospace and defense industry. We will achieve this by strengthening the digital experience and fostering a product-centric culture within our software development community, determining and instantiating best-in-class standard toolchains and processes, optimizing our deployment of automation to support operations and business outcomes and supporting our current and future software developers through career development opportunities, engagement and attracting and retaining top talent. This will allow us to deliver value faster to Boeing, its customers, and its partners.

This selected candidate will be responsible for the strategy, implementation, execution and operational support for various Software Chapter initiatives, including standards and governance, automation and developer productivity, Development, Security, Operations (DevSecOps) capability building, and professional development for our 2,000-strong IT&DA developer community. The ideal candidate will drive these developers to adopt best-in-class modern development tools and processes, while building cloud and automation skills to deliver products efficiently to our business customers. The selected candidate will achieve business and functional value through implementing solutions that deliver software development and automation outcomes with greater velocity, higher quality and improved security.

The selected candidate is an experienced and accomplished software leader with a proven track record of excellence. The ideal candidate has led a large-scale software development operation and demonstrated improvement in outcomes tracked through value metrics and has driven and influenced cultural change toward industry best-practice DevSecOps approaches. The selected candidate will have deep knowledge of toolchains and industry trends in the evolution of software development and how to improve software development at a large company. The ideal candidate will have a broad network of industry and vendor contacts to leverage to achieve success. The selected candidate will possess strong organizational abilities and the ability to command respect from our talented software developers. The ideal candidate should be able to identify critical issues promptly and present clear action plans to executive leadership. Finally, a "can-do" attitude and a determined approach to work are highly valued.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilize DevSecOps processes and tools is essential, as is the ability to apply this experience to a new business environment

  • Communicate to keep team members informed about deadlines and expectations

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the software chapter and ensure adherence to an agreed Plan of Record (POR) and Roadmap aligned with critical paths and milestones

  • Collaborate with senior leaders, project teams, stakeholders, and partner teams to create short, mid-and long-term software excellence and Automation roadmaps that align with the broader Boeing Information Technology (IT) and Business strategy

  • Own Software Chapter Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Return on Investment (ROI) of prioritized software excellence initiatives

  • Collaborate with IT division leaders to identify opportunities to drive best-in-class software practices including developer tools, standards, software Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), governance mechanisms, and developer training

  • Establish a data-driven approach to baseline software chapter adoption and elevate its effectiveness over time

  • Identify and implement strategies to unlock developer productivity, including initiatives like co-pilot tool adoption

  • Collaborate with product teams to implement design system best practices and build strong DevSecOps capabilities

  • Build and lead a high-performing software chapter team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning

  • Develop and implement talent development programs to upskill developers in emerging technologies and best practices

  • Drive community building across 2,000+ developers through knowledge-sharing initiatives like showcases and mentorship programs

This position is hybrid. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • 5+ years of experience leading DevSecOps teams to deploy a cloud or on-prem DevSecOps solutions

  • 5+ years of experience leading a software development team through the full software life cycle

  • 5+ years of experience with modern software development methodologies

  • 5+ years of experience in a managerial role

  • 5+ years of experience with working in a cross functional environment with all levels in the business from individual contributors to executive leadership

  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role leading diverse teams, initiatives, or projects to meet business objectives and influence change

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in building and managing a developer platform

  • Experience in implementing and utilizing software development metrics dashboards

  • Experience in a software talent development and mentorship programs

  • Experience with vendors in Software Development

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $174,250 – $251,850
