As an Shop Engineer in our Body Shop, you will be responsible for both current and future manufacturing processes in part of the Body Shop plant. You will be part of a growing team of engineers and Process Analysts where you will take a shop wide approach in driving continuous improvements as well as people development.

Job Summary

  • The purpose of Process Engineer is to:

    Drive efficiency improvements for current processes together with Production.
    Work for continuous improvements to process delivery, quality and cost (man-hours Non Value added).
    Participate 2nd line process problem analysis (through DMAIC methodology) and participate in the problem-solving process, when expertise competence is needed.
    Responsible for Process Engineering targets within time/technique/cost.
    Increase commonality and share best practices by working together within VCM.
    Decrease manufacturing variability within the Process Engineering area.
    Upon request, support core or commodity, when expertise competence is needed.
    Act as the interface between the Production department and time setting group Manufacturing Engineering.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Drive efficiency improvements for current processes / new processes under industrialization together with Production/ Launch.
  • Plan for future car projects deliverables and rebalance manning requirements.
  • Implement lean process improvements and reduce waste.
  • Lead Kaizen events with cross functional teams.
  • Participate 2nd line process problem analysis (through DMAIC) and participate in the problem-solving process when expertise competence is needed.
  • Consider safety, ergonomics and quality in every aspect of your work.
  • Perform return on investment calculations for suggested improvements.
  • Perform time studies, capacity analyses, layout / product flow analyses and standardized work.
  • Participate in Launch Team Activities and Budget Projects.
  • Manage, organize, assist with training and facilitate Kaizen (Process Improvement) and lean thinking implementation workshops to achieve company objectives.
  • Develops and maintains the standard labor hours, cycle time and takt time.
  • Improve efficiency of existing processes and equipment, using the Value Stream Map technique (Retrieval of information to analyze the process on a regular basis in function of OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency), IEE (Internal Equipment Efficiency), equipment availability, product throughput times, frequent disturbances, quality loss, etc.
  • Local and International travel may be required
  • Core hours from x to x however may require off-shift attendance for changes/investigations, etc. such as temporary shift adjustment/weekends/holidays
  • DRM involvement/planning future models - line layouts and process development
  • Review material facades and line side part staging for improvements.
  • Be the expert in Volvo Car Line Fundamental and make sure to spread that knowledge to other teams and ensure that we secure fulfillment on the shop floor.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 2+ years’ experience from manual, highly repetitive and short cycle time assembly processes.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is a plus.
  • Excellent skills in MS Office, Team Center and preferably simulation software is a plus.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Good communication skills in a global, cross-functional environment.
  • Expert know-how in balancing, manning calculations, productivity analysis/loss analysis, capacity analysis and ergonomics.
  • Strong knowledge in Product and Process Engineering.
  • Experience of Leading People
