Motorsport Tire Performance Engineer – Cadillac LMDh

Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC on a full-time basis.

The Role

We are seeking a Motorsport Tire Performance Engineer to support GM Cadillac LMDh race teams in WEC and IMSA by developing and integrating tire models with simulation (real-time and off-line) using track test, race event, and other applicable data to improve tire performance. You will coordinate efforts with the Tire Supplier, Race Teams, and Chassis Constructor, characterize tire models and interpret results for the Cadillac LMDh race teams to support tire race decisions.

As a key team member, you will attend motorsports testing domestically and internationally, attend specific races, and enable the transfer of knowledge from motorsports to production. In this constantly evolving environment, the team works with innovative testing and analytical technologies to review tire force and moment (F&M) properties to virtually integrate tire performance to enable vehicle dynamics simulations and guide race setup and strategy decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Develop methods to process, review, and qualify Supplier provided Tire model and translate to MF 5.2 and MF 6.1

  • Scale and synthesize models based on feedback from secondary data sources

  • Support integration of tire models with real-time simulation environments – directly support DiL Team Sessions and Tire Correlation sessions

  • Attend Tire Development testing domestically and internationally supporting the Tire Development program goals

  • Attend key IMSA or WEC races to serve as the conduit between the Tire Supplier and Cadillac race teams

  • Enable tire technology transfer

  • Domestic travel is required and expected 1-2x/month for 3-7 days in duration; tire testing occurs during the week - limited weekend travel may be required to arrive to the test facility.  International travel may be required.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, CAE, or Software Engineering

  • 5+ years of engineering experience following the completion of a degree

  • Motorsports experience

  • Vehicle dynamics and simulation experience

  • MATLAB or Python coding for modeling and analysis

  • Pi, MoTec, Atlas, or WinDarab experience

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team, as well as work independently

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of tire model fitting routines

  • Experience in developing advanced tire models that include wear, friction, and thermal effects

  • Experience implementing tire models in real-time simulation environments to support Driver-in-the-Loop project activities
