Position Overview 

As a Research Intern at Autodesk, you will be part of a global team of researchers specializing in robotics, software engineering, and AEC, with access to the facilities and expertise of staff at Autodesk’s Boston Technology Center for prototyping and validating your proposed solutions. You will work on research projects that have tangible influence on the goals of the organization and the company at large. 

 

The construction industry is a cornerstone of the global economy, with an estimated annual value of $15 trillion. Despite its massive scale, the industry faces significant challenges in efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Innovation is urgently needed to address these issues, and digital twins powered by AI offer a promising solution. In this internship, you will explore new applications of large language models (LLMs), machine learning (ML), and multi-modal data capture to create datasets of construction processes within a digital twin framework. 

Responsibilities 

  • Be an active member of a team exploring new areas of research in Construction, Artificial Intelligence, and automation

  • Develop digital twins for construction, modeling the complex and interdependent processes of construction

  • Leverage AI and ML tools including LLM’s and Computer Vison for analysis of construction data from multi-modal sources

  • Train AI model based on data from 3D scans, drones / mobile robots, or IoT devices 

  • Present research findings to the team and create reports and / or publish academic paper documenting the results

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD degree in Construction, Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, AI/ML or related fields

  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals, with a proficiency in either Python, C#, javascript 

  • Experience with Generative AI tools such as GPT, o1, Gemini with solid understanding of underlying machine learning pipelines

  • Solid understanding of Construction and AEC workflows. Basic knowledge of Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud or other construction management platforms

  • Familiarity with digital twin technology, including its applications in construction for real-time monitoring, simulation, and optimization of construction processes is a plus

  • Creative, flexible and enjoy working with new technology in research setting

About the US Intern Program  

The 2025 U.S. program runs for 12 weeks (May 19 – August 8 or June 16 – September 5). All internships are paid. As an intern, you will contribute to meaningful projects, be mentored by industry leaders, and participate in tech talks and other activities designed to support your personal and professional development. Salary Transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience, educational level, and geographic location, and can exceed this range.

For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting annualized intern base salary to be between:

  • $47,840 and $95,680 (undergraduate students)
  • $72,800 and $118,500 (Masters/MBA students)
  • $118,560 and $162,240 (PhD students)
