Functional Safety System Engineer

The ‘Functional Safety System Engineer’ is responsible for assisting and ensuring that design and development of Valeo products/solutions is carried out in accordance with the Valeo Functional Safety (FuSa) methodology (in-line with ISO26262).

Scope includes: all or part of the design, integration, validation of blocks / product.

Responsibilities

Functional Safety System Engineering

  • Identify / review / complete / challenge project FuSa requirements, based on Customer or/and Internal specifications;

  • Perform / review system design and FuSa analysis activities (such as PHA, Sys FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA, eFMEA);

  • Specify / review FuSa requirements and FuSa concept for system, hardware and software architectures;

  • Demonstrate / review how the chosen technical concept will comply with FuSa requirements;

  • Specify / review with the development team of effective technical solution aimed to achieve adequate robustness at System, HW and SW architectural level in compliance with Valeo FuSa methodology;

  • Contribute in the product development process, by creating /reviewing the appropriate work products that meet the requirements of the relevant FuSa standards;

  • Communicate / review with customer/suppliers,for common understanding and agreement on FuSa implementation;

  • Specify / perform / review product FuSa verification & validation activities;

  • Prepare / assist project FuSa Assessment Reviews, held by FuSa assessor(s);

 

Functional Safety Management

  • Ensure FuSa planning in Project Plan & Schedule and support/define project Safety Development Plan;

  • Define / review the Development Interface Agreement with customer/suppliers, regarding FuSa;

  • Perform / report / monitor of assigned activities or activities assigned to other FuSa resources, inline with project Safety Development Plan, and in compliance with Valeo FuSa methodology and ISO26262;

  • Support / guide for the product development team and other functions in FuSa processes and activities, and related expected outputs;

  • Liaise with / can be Project Functional Safety Manager;

  • Prepare / assist / perform FuSa design reviews, internal and with customers/suppliers;

  • Ensure / review documentation of assigned FuSa activities, establish / ensure / review evidence of FuSa;

  • Ensure / review incorporation of the safety concept in customer end-product and verify the overall safety concept;

  • Develop / review the product Safety Case, review Suppliers Safety Case(s);

  • Support / prepare / assist project or organization FuSa Audits, held by FuSa auditor(s);

 

General

  • Enforces / review the application of Safety Standards in Valeo;

  • Ensure / review the compliance of projects to ISO26262 and other applicable Standards;

  • Active participation to the Functional Safety process continuous improvement;

  • Active role in Valeo Safety Culture deployment/continuous improvement;

Education/Training

  • Degree in Electronic, Computer or System Engineering or equivalent

  • (recommended) Functional Safety program certification / trainings

  • (recommended) System Engineering programs certifications / trainings

 

Professional Experience

  • 5+ years experience to ISO26262 standard and its application to automotive product development

  • 5+ years experience in the automotive industry R&D

  • 3+ years experience in system engineering and validation tools & methods 

  • Strong Experience to create safety concepts and technical safety requirements

  • Strong Experience with analysis tools & methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA

  • Experience with product safety standards linked to FuSa (e.g. SOTIF - ISO21448)

  • Experience with automotive quality management (IATF16949) and R&D development processes

  • Experience with Automotive SPICE
