Job Summary
The Aerospace Corporation believes in providing meaningful, high impact, communications to our employees and the customers we serve. We are looking for the right person to join our team as a Communications and Corporate Affairs Director. This position is located in our Colorado Springs, Colorado campus and plays a vital role in developing and implementing communications strategies for our civil and national security space portfolios. This critical position manages a team of on-site communications staff and serves as Communications site leader and partner with our senior executives onsite in Colorado Springs.
Work Model
This is a full-time position based in our Colorado Springs, Colorado campus facility, offering a hybrid work model of four regular workdays onsite, and remote flexibility the balance of the week or as the business needs allow.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Functions as the Corporate Communications on-site lead for the Colorado Springs, Colorado campus; provides leadership in developing and delivering the communications service model for a critical capability for the nation security space program; collaborates with cross-functional colleagues on integrated teams that are high profile and high impact for our customers; develops plans that prioritizes current and future-state communications project needs and resources.
- Applies expert-level knowledge of communications strategies, content development, tactics, and measurements to develop and implement strategic communications plans for both internal and external audiences.
- Ensures staff projects, including on site events, are approached strategically, and executed on time and within defined parameters.
- Partners with senior leaders on break-through communications strategies and tactics; backs up recommendations with data on best practices; educates decision-makers on current industry research for engagement and thought-leadership.
- Works with senior leaders to develop consistent messaging for internal and external audiences; maintains a detailed knowledge of relevant subject matter.
- Partners with Media team and Social Media team on pitches, developing executive talking points for interviews, technical news-release writing, and support for social media campaign development.
- Contributes to the creation of content from concept through execution and distribution; works both hands-on and as a team leader in partnership with the CorpComm Content, Video, and Graphics teams.
- Applies experience in high-volume, fast-paced environments to develop and implement process improvements to accommodate an increasing volume of products and pace of development.
- Leads a diverse and inclusive workforce as people-leader and mentor; identifies and prepares talent for new and enriching experiences.
What You Need to be Successful - Communications and Corporate Affairs Director
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field
- Twelve or more years of relevant experience in a corporate or government environment.
- Experience organizing and leading cross-functional and cross-organizational teams to execute projects or studies
- Strong people management, interpersonal, and networking skills
- Strong project management skills
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in the application of concepts and practices in communications, public relations, marketing, and journalism as well as experience with a wide variety of channels (print, web, broadcast, social media, etc.)
- Experience with corporate events management at various scales
- Knowledge of civil and commercial space, government, and military communities.
- Knowledge of executive and employee communications.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work a flexible schedule, to include some evenings and weekends on short notice as required
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
